Ben Elton Talks 'BOYS IN THE PHOTOGRAPH' to Globe & Mail

The world premiere of The Boys in the Photograph, the latest musical collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Ben Elton will take place at the Manitoba Theatre Centre in Winnipeg from April 25 to May 23, 2009. The David Mirvish co-production will then move to the Canon Theatre in Toronto in June 2009.

The Cleveland Play House Artistic Director Michael Bloom announces the world premiere production of Thornton Wilder's novel Heaven's My Destination, adapted by award-winning playwright Lee Blessing. The play is the centerpiece of the fourth annual FusionFest, a multidisciplinary performing arts festival.

He reports that the show might have four companies in rehearsal this summer instead of the earlier announced three, as Toronto may end up staying put and not heading for a Broadway bow if it proves successful. On Tuesday, May 26, Tim Martin Gleason will return to the U.S. National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera and, for the first time, slip behind the mask as the elusive Phantom who lurks beneath the stage of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all its occupants. The international award-winning musical, directed by Harold Prince, is currently at the Music Hall in Kansas City through April 19.

A cast of internationally most acclaimed Verdi singers is showcased in the Met's new production of the Italian master's melodic tour de force, Il Trovatore, which opens February 16. Renowned director David McVicar makes his Met debut, and Gianandrea Noseda conducts a cast that includes Marcelo ?lvarez in his first Met performances of the heroic title role, and three singers who are celebrated interpreters of their parts: Sondra Radvanovsky as Leonora, Dolora Zajick as Azucena, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Count di Luna. Kwangchul Youn makes his Met role debut as Ferrando. In later performances, Marco Berti is Manrico; Hasmik Papian is Leonora; Luciana D'Intino is Azucena, ?eljko Lučić is di Luna, and Burak Bilgili is Ferrando, conducted by Riccardo Frizza. Performances run through May 8.
