GEORGE M! tells the life story of George M. Cohan, a giant of the American Musical Theater who gave us such songs asYankee Doodle Dandy, Over There, You're A Grand Old Flag, and Give My Regards to Broadway. The show follows him over a 60-year period period from the late 1880s until 1937. The story begins with his childhood in Rhode Island on the vaudeville circuit with his parents and sister as "The Four Cohans," continuing to New York, where he starts his 25-year absolute reign of the Broadway stage.
SAMUEL JOSEPH PRESENTS MARK NADLER- New York Cabaret Star singer/pianist in 'His Lovely Wife, Ira - Ira Gershwin With and Without George'- A brand new show direct from Manhattan
The biggest Broadway event of 1937 was undoubtedly the gala opening night of I'd Rather Be Right. Not only did the new musical boast a score by Richard Rodger and Lorenz Hart and a book by George S. Kaufman (who also directed) and Moss Hart (the pair had just won that year's Pulitzer for You Can't Take It With You), but the star was no less than the grand old man of Broadway - who many will argue invented the book song and dance musical comedy as we know it today - George M. Cohan, playing the role of then-President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Never before and never since has a sitting U.S. president been the leading character in a Broadway musical.

'The Killing of Sister George' shocked and delighted audiences in London in 1964 and then again in 1966 on Broadway as one of the first plays about a lesbian couple. It was subsequently made into a film 'The Killing of Sister George' in 1968 and Beryl Reid was nominated for an Academy Award for her portayal of Sister George. Many people compare this play to the movie 'Whatever Happenned to Baby Jane' and say George makes Baby Jane Look Sane.

This dilemma is solved by the appearance of an old theatrical trunk filled with the memorabilia of early show-business days. These include some George M. Cohan props, his derby straw hat and cane and a script of 45 Minutes from Broadway. Miss Templeton, the teacher, and Jason, the student director, guide the cast through the auditions, casting and presentation of the old Cohan musical.
