by Marakay Rogers - Jun 9, 2013

On March 28, 2009, any number of other things may have happened, but for some cabaret fans, the date marks the first performance by the cabaret group BENDING THREADS. In an area where groups come and go, that they've stayed together performing for four years and are still going strong is a prime indication that something is working - as are their 2010 and 2011 nominations for Best Group and Best Musical Director from Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs. In the mid-1960s, the Righteous Brothers became a fixture on Top Forty radio, with You're My Soul and Inspiration, Unchained Melody and You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, the most played song in American radio history and more. For his Three Stages performance, the Grammy award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will be joined on stage by his daughter McKenna Medley. (more...)

by BroadwayWorld TV - Jun 7, 2013

Welcome to our first edition of "Cutting-Edge Composers In The Studio" exclusively on Broadwayworld.com! Today, we are in The Studio with Joe Iconis, and his collaborators Jason Sweettooth Williams and Lance Rubin. You can hear Joe discuss his inspiration for writing, his experience with SMASH, what it's like to work with the Joe Iconis Family, and his upcoming projects. These talented gentlemen also shared a live performance of the song "Outlaw" from their show Bloodsong of Love and a song from their new musical in progress entitled Annie Golden: Bounty Hunter, Yo! Joe sent us this synopsis for his latest creative endeavor: What if musical theater legend Annie Golden starred in a show as a bad-ass action hero?' That was the idea that led to this musical, Annie Golden: Bounty Hunter, Yo, which uses the conventions---both theatrical and musical---of 70's blaxploitation films to tell the story of a widowed down-on-her-luck theatre actress who becomes a bounty hunter and goes on a journey of self-discovery and serious ass-kicking. BWW Blog: Claire van Bever - Setting vs CreatingBWW Blog: Claire van Bever - Setting vs Creating
by Guest Blogger: Claire van Bever - Jun 11, 2013

As a dancer in a repertory company, you are asked to learn and perform many different pieces over the course of a season. It's a huge change from being a student, where there might only be two or three opportunities for performance a year. Naturally, the process is drastically different. Instead of rehearsing the same material non-stop for a month or two before the show, you might have 3 weeks to prepare several pieces for a performance, while also preparing for a performance with different repertory two weeks after that. Sometimes, my brain gets quite crowded with choreography! But, it's part of the job. (more...)
