Museum of the Moving Image to Present PARAMOUNT IN THE 1970S Film Series, 6/2-7/1

Paramount Pictures, founded in 1912 as the Famous Players Film Company, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. To mark this milestone, Museum of the Moving Image will present a month-long film series, from June 2 through July 1, 2012, featuring sixteen films produced by Paramount during one of its greatest decades. The films will be shown in archival 35mm prints and digital restorations provided by The Studio. (more...)

METAMORPHOSES & CONSTABLE Set for June-August at Frist Center, Nashville

It's officially summer come June and this summer season promises to be an active one at the Frist Center. Next month kicks off with the opening of Metamorphoses: Drawings by Erin Anfinson, Kristi Hargrove, Mark Hosford, and Chris Scarborough in the Conte Community Arts Gallery, and is shortly followed by the opening of Constable: Oil Sketches from the Victoria and Albert Museum on June 22. The Frist has collaborated with Watkins College on an quilting workshop with edgy quilter Ben Venom and the second installment of Frist Fridays on June 29th features Sam Bush with special guest Lera Lynn. Isamu Noguchi 'HAMMER, CHISEL, DRILL' Exhibition Opens in Long Island City, 10/3

Hammer, Chisel, Drill: Noguchi's Studio Practice, an exhibition that explores Isamu Noguchi's working methods, opens at The Noguchi Museum on October 3, 2012. Featuring a variety of hand- and industrial tools, along with photographs, select sculptures, and film footage, the exhibition will illuminate Noguchi's practice in six of The Studios he used during the course of his career. These were located in Manhattan and Queens, New York; Querceta and Pietrasanta, Italy; and Kanagawa prefecture and Mure, Japan. Hammer, Chisel, Drill will also briefly consider Noguchi's time as an assistant in the Paris studio of Constantin Brancusi, which was critical not only as the younger artist's first exposure to direct stone-carving, but also for its influence on the way he would set up his own studios. Matt Toka to Release Self-Titled EP on 6/12

Punk/pop artist/upstart MATT TOKA will release a self-titled EP through Warner Bros. Records on June 12th. The six-track EP includes The Studio versions of previous YouTube-only tracks '666' and 'Ode To My Family,' as well as 'Say10,' which is currently available via all digital retailers. The EP will be released physically and digitally - the digital version includes lyric videos for two tracks, '666' and 'Get Money.' (more...)

Seattle Center Seeks Proposals for New Long-Term Seattle Center Playhouse Tenant; Deadline 7/13

Seattle Center today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a long term tenant for the Seattle Center Playhouse, currently occupied by Intiman Theatre. The building, constructed for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, contains a 446-seat auditorium, gracious lobby spaces, a large meeting room, workshop area, a variety of support spaces, and a 3,500 square foot studio/rehearsal hall added in 1998. Seattle Center must receive proposals for future use of the facility by July 13, 2012. It is anticipated the Playhouse will be available for occupancy on January 1, 2013. (more...)

AMC announced today its summer programming slate, including the highly anticipated premiere of the first part of 'Breaking Bad's' final season on Sunday, July 15 at 10pm ET/PT. The final season of the Emmy(R) Award-winning and critically acclaimed drama, produced by Sony Pictures Television, consists of 16 episodes, with the first eight episodes beginning July 15 and culminating with the series' final eight episodes next summer 2013.
