"It's an opera about the crisis"
Alexander Titel a new production on the stage of the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater:

"Boris Godunov" - a work still excites us, forcing worry meditate. Opera about the crisis - and it's in the story. We are talking about the crisis in the relations between the authorities and the people, provoked a change of dynasty - as a result of the people no longer trust the authorities and to respect it. I would like to play our characters were recognizable, to live history unfolded before the audience. Not limited by some timeframe, telling not only of Boris Godunov, who was, and that Boris Godunov, who will.

It's such a dystopia. There is no particular time - a hypothetical future, which may occur under certain circumstances development.

The construction, which you will see on the stage, do not exist - it invented an art object. Features of this architecture can be found in the ancient temples, fortresses, and it is possible in the modern industrial design. We often happened that out of the church did the warehouse and from the kindergarten - shop. In short, it is a building, causing associations connected with the past and the present, and perhaps the future.

Heroes opera - always lively, always changing, and if so - it is necessary on the stage somehow match what is happening in the world, in our lives. Today it's hard to imagine people in fur coats and hats, which pass from the Assumption Cathedral of the Archangel and back to the Assumption, and the pathos of opera genius goes into circulation, and is shaking beards. For me it is a sham, a lie. There is another option "of hiding" - put on all jeans, hand on the laptop and make a slice of life - the newspaper "Euronews". I think this is also unconvincing. "Boris Godunov" - is not ephemeral, it's deep, the essential thing in which there are many dark and mysterious places, which, it seems to me, and should remain there. As in Shakespeare: "There are more things on earth, Horatio, than are dreamed of in your philosophy" But kakie-to important and essential aspects of our mentality, relationships with each other, adults and children, authorities and people throughout Russian history remain topical themes.

In preparation for the performance I did not shock the task. It is possible that in the course of works and performances in the course of rehearsals there were some episodes that can be treated as outrageous. But they were born an attempt to make the most powerful artistic impression, to reach the main in search of meaning.
