The world premiere of the new edition of Johnny Johnson by Paul Green and Kurt Weill, with text and music not heard since 1937, will be staged at the University of North Carolina. Performances will take place in the Kenan Theatre, Center for Dramatic Art on Thursday, November 20th at 8pm, Friday, November 21st at 8pm (post-show discussion), Saturday, November 22nd at 8pm (pre-show symposium), Sunday, November 23rd at 2pm, and Monday, November 24th at 5pm.

The Smithsonian invites the public to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 to Oct. 15) through a series of vibrant performances, lectures, family activities and exhibitions at various museums around the Institution. The Off-Broadway production of The Long Shrift, written by Robert Boswell and directed by James Franco, opens tonight at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. The Long Shirt began previews on July 7th and will run through August 23rd. This play is James Franco's directing debut.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre will kick off its 58th Season on November 6, 2014 with a Champagne Celebration and toast to the four new plays never before produced on a professional stage. Four stories: BUZZ by Richard Strand is a biting comedy about a CEO trying to outsmart his stock clerk; SWEET PEA'S MAMA by Robert Lawrence Nelson, a story about racial dignity centers around a maid and the developmentally challenged son of her employer on the eve of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s death; THE KISS OF THE SUN FOR PARDON by Lans Traverse is a life affirming tale of unusual friendship, a barefoot waif and a wheel-chair bound curmudgeon, and the explosive relationship that ensues; and finally, WHITE ASH FALLING 9/11 by Thom Molyneaux is a gripping story of three actors whose personal stories intertwine with the characters they play in a play about the tragedy of September 11th, 2001.

The playwright will be flying in to see the Premiere of his play. All are invited to meet the playwright, and after the performance, join in a Champagne toast with the playwright, cast and crew in the elegant lobby gallery of Michigan's oldest professional, Union theatre in the heart of Detroit.
