Orlando Shakes to Stage Special Easter Performance of JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

Gamut Theatre Group to Celebrate Shakespeare's Birthday Next Month

Gamut Theatre Group will host their annual celebration in honor of William Shakespeare's birthday on April 26, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at Gamut Classic Theatre on the third floor of Strawberry Square. The event, sponsored by Lois Lehrman Grass and David and Katharine Newhouse, will feature delicious food and wine, as well as beer from the Appalachian Brewing Company. William Shakespeare, along with Queen Elizabeth will be present to mingle with guests. Entertainment will be provided by a trio from the Harrisburg Symphony, a performance from Gamut's Theatre School students, and a hilarious spoof on Macbeth by Gamut's core company actors.

Geffen Playhouse announces the West Coast premiere of THESE PAPER BULLETS! A Modish Ripoff of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing to open the 2015/2016 Geffen Playhouse season in the Gil Cates Theater. Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Emmy Award nominated writer Rolin Jones (Friday Night Lights, Boardwalk Empire) with songs by Grammy Award winner Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong and staged by Jackson Gay. THESE PAPER BULLETS! was commissioned by Yale Repertory Theatre where it premiered in 2014.

The New Acting Company is celebrating its 15th anniversary with, A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. A Midsummer's Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies and has been updated and reimagined to fit the modern time. The production is directed by The New Acting Company's Producing Artistic Director, Stephen Michael Rondel, and choreographed by Ede Thurrell. The script has been reimagined and adapted by Mary Jo Bono.

The story is based on William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Directed by Christopher Ashley, with choreography by Ken Roberson, the original Broadway cast included Cheyenne Jackson (Chad), Jenn Gambatese (Natalie Haller/'Ed'), and Jonathan Hadary (Jim Haller).

Walking up to this warehouse building in the downtown area I was excited. Was I in the East Village seeing a production at La MaMa, or I was in the Bayou City seeing The Stark Naked Theatre Company's production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM? From the rugged factory exterior of the venue to the perfectly designed industrial theatre space I was in artistic heaven.
