SPACE on Ryder Farm's 2014 Summer Season to Feature LeFranc, Washburn, MTC, EST, Ars Nova and More

SPACE on Ryder Farm, a nonprofit artist residency program announces its 4th season. Housed on an organic farm in picturesque Brewster, NY, SPACE will host over 150 artists as they develop 75 projects.

Theater Breaking Through Barriers (TBTB), the critically acclaimed theater company dedicated to advancing artists with disabilities and changing the image of people with disabilities from dependence to independence, presents its fourth annual short play festival, POWER PLAYS -- a collection of five world-premiere short plays by celebrated playwrights Bekah Brunstetter, Bruce Graham, John Guare, David Henry Hwang and Neil LaBute -- with performances to run June 12-29 at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre (410 West 42nd Street). The company is proud to announce that the 8pm performance on Saturday, June 14 will feature ASL interpretation by sign language interpreters Sarah Brandenburg and Craig Fogel.

Kitchen Theatre to Premiere SLASHES OF LIGHT, 6/11-29

The Kitchen Theatre Company completes its 2013-14 Season with the world premiere of a play set in Chicago's South Side during the turbulent 1960s. SLASHES OF LIGHT by Judy Tate is produced in collaboration with Civic Ensemble. This production connects Civic Ensemble's focus on community-based work by women and people of color with the Kitchen's two decades of producing bold, intimate work that starts 'important conversations.' Previews are June 11, 12 and 13, opening night is June 14, and the play closes on June 29.

FAILURE: A LOVE STORY Receives West Coast Premiere at MTC Tonight

To close its 47th Season, Marin Theatre Company will produce the West Coast premiere of Failure: A Love Story by the 'hugely talented Chicago writer' (Chicago Tribune) Philip Dawkins. Directed by MTC's artistic director Jasson Minadakis, this 'enchanted and enchanting' play about love and loss will feature five actors playing multiple characters, using puppets and playing live music both original (by MTC's frequent collaborator Chris Houston, a Berkeley-based composer and musician) and from the era of the play - 1920s Chicago.

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of The Color Purple at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, June 20, 2014 with a Preview on Thursday, June 19. The show runs through August 3, 2014. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, this joyful musical and epic story follows the life and personal awakening of Celie, a downtrodden young African American woman. With a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray, the uplifting score features jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues. The Broadway production earned eleven Tony nominations.

The Long Island theatre scene will unquestionably be a hopping one this Summer. One of the most exciting seasons is being offered by Northport's John W. Engeman Theatre. Their current season culminates with Plaza Suite (May 29th - July 13th). Then their 8th season starts soon after with a stellar line-up that includes Evita, Deathtrap, A Christmas Story, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, A Chorus Line, and The Producers.
