Mandy Gonzalez and Alexandra Socha to Perform at Young People's Chorus of New York City's 2017 Gala

The Young People's Chorus of New York City will hold its 2017 fundraising gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center, on Monday, March 6, at 7 p.m. YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. Nuñez and the chorus are excited to welcome special guests: Broadway stars Mandy Gonzalez (Angelica) from Hamilton and Alexandra Socha from Spring Awakening, plus Time for Three, a high-energy, genre-bending string trio that performs music from classical to bluegrass with mashups of everything in between.

Cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and Pianist Shai Wosner to Release All-Beethoven Disc, Today

Internationally-renowned cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and pianist Shai Wosner release an all-Beethoven disc on the Onyx Classics label on December 9, 2016.  The duo's album, which was recorded live in London's Wigmore Hall, consists of the complete Beethoven cello sonatas and variations, to be released as a two-disc set.  Last season, Kirshbaum and Wosner performed Beethoven cycles extensively throughout the United States and Europe; the tour culminated with a performance of the complete cycle in London, recorded for Onyx Classics.  Mr. Kirshbaum and Mr. Wosner continue their performances of Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano in March, with a two-concert series at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, followed by a performance with Chamber Music Sedona in Arizona.

Pacific Symphony's upcoming concert presents Spain's pre-eminent pianist Joaquin Achucarro, performing Grieg's sweepingly dramatic Piano Concerto. Sir Simon Rattle said: "There is something special with Joaquin Achucarro. Very few musicians can extract this kind of sound from the piano," while Zubin Mehta remarked, "I have only heard this sound from Rubinstein." This not-to-be-missed Symphony debut by one of today's most talented pianists is part of a program that includes selections from Grieg's ever-popular "Peer Gynt," fairy-tale music from Stravinsky's iconic "Firebird" ballet, and a magical, mystical concerto by Rautavaara infused with bird songs.
