The League of Independent Theater (LIT) will hold a rally for the candidates they've endorsed in the 2017 New York City election races on Tuesday, May 23 at 1pm on the steps of the Kraine Theatre at 85 E. 4th St in Manhattan. Many of the candidates chosen participated in LIT's Meet the Candidates forum in March, also at The Kraine Theater. Some of the candidates expected to attend the rally include:

On Sunday, January 29, 2017, the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust joins with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene to honor the memory of Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, who died on July 2, 2016, by presenting a community reading of his landmark memoir NIGHT, which tells of his experience in German concentration camps with his father during the Holocaust.

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, joined City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Congressman Charlie Rangel, Diane Collier, chair of Community Board 11, Friends of White Park and multiple community and children's groups to cut the ribbon on reconstructed White Park in East Harlem/El Barrio. The park has been reconstructed to better suit the needs of people of various ages and abilities, and to provide additional play and educational value for the neighborhood's children and young adults.

More than 400 guests joined Olympians and stars of stage and screen to show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students at the annual Point Honors gala the landmark New York Public Library last night. The evening celebrated the accomplishments of Point Foundation's (Point), higher education scholarship recipients. More than $500,000 was raised for Point, the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.

In 2013, the year Theater for the New City burned its mortgage, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer declared January 26 to be Theater for the New City Appreciation Day. This year, the theater is celebrating with festivities on that day beginning at 7:00 PM. There will be a benefit bake sale, performances by Kitty Lunn and the dance/percussion troupe COBU and a special presentation by playwright Jean-Claude van Itallie.

On Thursday evening, The New York Women's Foundation (NYWF) held its annual Fall Gala in The Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The evening's honorees included Ambassador Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations; Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori, creators of the Tony Award-winning musical, FUN HOME, and corporate honoree Citi. TODAY's Hoda Kotb served as the evening's Mistress of Ceremony. The event raised $680,000 which will help to support NYWF's more than 70 women-led, community grantee-partner organizations.
