A British drama about people on the fringes of life trying to survive day by day, and an American tale about an extended family looking for love: Wisdom of Obscurity and Paper Dragon are two very different stories about people on both sides of the Atlantic with a desperate need to be recognized, no matter the risks they take or the people they hurt.

Theater for the New City proudly presents the world premiere of Birds on Fire, a historical musical drama written and directed by Barbara Kahn.

The first preview of Tony Kushner's THE INTELLIGENT HOMOSEXUAL'S GUIDE TO CAPITALISM AND SOCIALISM WITH A KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES has been postponed a day to provide the cast and crew with an additional dress rehearsal. Michael Greif, who directed the world premiere at the Guthrie in April 2009, directs the New York premiere, which opens on Thursday, May 5 and runs through June 12.

After working together on the critically acclaimed run of the original play 'Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times)' at Theater for the New City in 2010 (written by Jonathan Blitstein, directed by Daniel Talbott), Daniel Abeles, Jonathan Blitstein, Nate Miller and Laura Ramadei teamed up to launch a new theater company called LESSER AMERICA. Theater For the New City has granted Lesser America a residency affording the group three full-scale productions in its inaugural year, the first residency of its kind at the theater.

'This play is to be performed relentlessly without a break', Shepard wrote. With a tight knit cast and dedicated crew, that is exactly what audience members will get.

I Was Drunk That Day is an exploratory (staged) reading of several early crime and suspense stories by Anton Chekhov including 'Conversation of a Drunken Man with a Sober Devil', 'Evildoer', and 'The Wallet'. Assembled, adapted and directed by Darrell Larson, most of the featured stories translated into English for the first time - just last year.
