Charles Grodin Comes to Ridgefield Playhouse Tonight

Charles Grodin, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning actor, comedian, author, and former talk show host has been in the entertainment business for more than 50 years and has seen it all. From his parts in films such as Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby and The Heartbreak Kid, Catch-22, Midnight Run, Heaven Can Wait, Taking Care of Business, Seems Like Old Times, The Great Muppet Caper, The Woman in Red, The Lonely Guy, Ishtar The Couch Trip and more, Grodin has a rich treasure trove of material. In this special event at The Ridgefield Playhouse today, April 12, at 7:30 p.m., he will take the audience on a comedic roller coaster ride as he shares stories about his career and life in Hollywood. Grodin is probably best known for his role alongside Robert De Niro in the 1988 classic, Midnight Run. This event is part of The Ridgefield Magazine Broadway & Cabaret Series.

That question lies at the heart of 'The Fool's Lear,' a new play by Randy Neale, which will have its New York premiere May 5 to 25 as a featured production of Phoenix Theatre Ensemble's Tenth Anniversary Spring Rep season at The Wild Project 195 E. 3rd Street (at Ave. B). This new, funny, poignant comedic drama follows the journey of the Fool and his King as they ply a path along side Shakespeare's great tragedy, exploring hilarious and harrowing byways between its scenes. Grant Neale directs and plays The Fool and Craig Smith plays The King in a play which South Carolina critics called a delight and a must-see comic drama.

Composer and Conductor Ennio Morricone Suffers Back Injury; Postpones LA, Brooklyn Shows to June 2014

The Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who turned 85 in November, has suffered a back injury that has forced the postponement of concerts originally dated March 20 in Los Angeles and March 23 in Brooklyn. The shows have been rescheduled for June 13 at Cushman & Wakefield Theater at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and June 15 at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, where he will conduct an ensemble of 200 musicians and singers in performances of his legendary film scores. The concerts will be, respectively, his first New York appearance since 2007 and his first-ever Los Angeles concert.

Ennio Morricone, conducting an ensemble of 200 musicians and singers, will have a single performance at Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 8 pm. This concert marks the legendary Morricone's first Los Angeles performance. Morricone has composed the scores for more than 450 films including five of Sergio Leone's westerns -- A Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly; Once Upon a Time in the West and A Fistful of Dynamite - and The Battle of Algiers; Sacco and Vanzetti; Cinema Paradiso; 1900, Malena; The Untouchables; Once Upon A Time in America; The Mission; U-Turn; The Unknown Woman; and The Best Offer, among hundreds of others.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present David Ives' THE HEIR APPARENT, adapted from the play by Jean-Francois Regnard, beginning performances Friday, March 28 at CSC (136 East 13th Street). Directed by John Rando, THE HEIR APPARENT will feature Suzanne Bertish (Madame Argante), Carson Elrod (Crispin), Claire Karpen (Lisette), Amelia Pedlow (Isabelle), David Pittu (Scruple), Dave Quay (Eraste) and Paxton Whitehead (Geronte). The official press opening for THE HEIR APPARENT is Wednesday, April 9. The production will play at limited engagement through Sunday, May 4.

Sharon Tate in Heaven is a one woman odyssey about model and actress Sharon Tate. Sharon did some television work and made six films, her last with Orson Welles, and was on her way to international stardom. She met director Roman Polanski in 1967 when she was hired to play the lead in his film The Fearless Vampire Killers, fell madly in love, and married him. Two years later while pregnant with his child, a boy, she and four others were savagely killed by members of the Charles Manson 'family' in August 1969 when Manson, a frustrated musician who wanted to get revenge on the Establishment that rejected him, and with paranoid delusions about a Helter Skelter race war he wanted to start, set it in motion. At the home Sharon and Roman rented on Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon, Sharon passed before being able to say goodbye to her husband or loved ones. In this one woman show, written and performed by Jen Danby (The Blonde Bombshell Project: Marilyn Monroe), and inspired by research into books, pictures, interviews, films, virtual explorations, and more, Sharon Tate is interviewed in Heaven moments after her death to talk about her life, acting, and love, as a Valentine message to her husband. Jim Belushi and the Board of Comedy to Headline MAC Madness, 3/8

Popular TV and film actor Jim Belushi, who is also a Second City and College of DuPage alumnus, returns to the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) at College of DuPage (425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn) with his improv group the Board of Comedy to mark the MAC's Grand Opening Celebration with a late night performance Saturday, March 8 at 9:30 p.m. The late night performance follows the 6 p.m. 'MAC Madness' benefit performance and party hosted by the College of DuPage Foundation.
