Cleveland Orchestra to Perform Richard Strauss's 'Daphne' in May

Music Director Franz Welser-Möst continues his focus on and commitment to opera with a new production of Richard Strauss's Daphne performed by The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall May 27 and 30. For Daphne, a work the composer called a “bucolic tragedy,” the Orchestra's production brings the majesty of the outdoors to the intimate setting of Severance Hall. Los Angeles-based stage director James Darrah transforms Severance Hall into a tableau of nature, within the concert hall's classically inspired architecture. The story unfolds around the Orchestra with dance, men's chorus, and a cast of singers costumed in a contemporary interpretation of traditional Greek attire.

April 28, 2015 – Richmond, Virginia The Richmond Symphony invites you to experience Bernstein: Chichester Psalms on Saturday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Richmond CenterStage's Carpenter Theatre. The performance features boy soprano Jack Rigdon and the 150 member Richmond Symphony Chorus with Director Erin R. Freeman. This is the final Altria Masterworks Concert of the 2014-15 Season and will be led by Music Director, Steven Smith.

Each play focuses on a different character from history, with a cast of 25 portraying such historical figures as Laurette Taylor, Rose Kennedy, Tennessee Williams, Agatha Christie, Joseph Goebbels, Gertrude Stein, Lillian Hellman and John F. BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons will lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra in three programs at Carnegie Hall, this week, April 15-17. For his first Carnegie Hall concert as BSO Music Director today, April 15, Mr. Nelsons will open the program with the New York premiere of Gunther Schuller's Dreamscape, a BSO commission, inspired by a dream the composer had and featuring Schuller's characteristically kaleidoscopic mastery of the orchestra (Click here for the program note for Gunther Schuller's Dreamscape). The Schuller work will be followed by Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat, K. 595, with soloist Richard Goode, an acclaimed Mozart specialist, and Richard Strauss's Ein Heldenleben.

Weill Hall and the Green Music Center (GMC) at Sonoma State University (SSU) announced its 2015–16 season today, with concerts in Weill Hall, Schroeder Hall, and through the summer at Weill Hall + Lawn. The season comprises the MasterCard Performance Series — 39 concerts on the stage of the 1,400-seat Weill Hall, featuring a roster of internationally renowned stars from the genres of classical music, 2 world music, jazz and pop — leading off with a Gala Opening Night performance by piano superstar Lang Lang; the Summer 2015 MasterCard Performance Series, which takes place with seating both indoors in Weill Hall and on the spacious Weill Lawn featuring an array of contemporary music; and 24 concerts in 240- seat Schroeder Hall, including the popular Sundays At Schroeder series plus three new offerings — a fiveday, nine-concert GMC ChamberFest 2015, led by Jeffrey Kahane, a new Saturday Cabaret four-concert series, and four performances with Musicians from Valley of the Moon Music Festival, featuring early music performed on period instruments by leading Bay Area musicians.
