'Beckett Shorts' Reschedules Opening Night for Dec.18

New York Theatre Workshop announces that the opening night for Beckett Shorts, an evening of four one-act plays written by Samuel Beckett and directed by JoAnne Akalaitis, will now be Tuesday, December 18.

Stew of 'Passing Strange' Guest DJ on WNYC Radio 12/14

Stew - whose new musical Passing Strange will begin performances on Broadway Feb. 8, 2008 at the Belasco Theatre - is one of five special guest hosts who will divulge the music they just cannot live without during WNYC Radio's annual weeklong 'Must Have Festival' December 10 to 14. Stew's evening of 'Must Have' music will conclude the weeklong Festival, broadcasting on December 14 at 7PM.

2008 BMI Student Composer Awards Competition Opens

The opening of the 56th annual BMI Student Composer Awards competition was announced today by BMI President and CEO Del Bryant and BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Jackson. The competition, which is co-sponsored by BMI and the BMI Foundation, will award $20,000 in prizes. Student composers under the age of 28 who are citizens of the Western Hemisphere. All entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, February 15, 2008.

Ravinia Commissions Bill T. Jones to Create Lincoln-Tribute

Ravinia Festival has commissioned award-winning choreographer Bill T. Jones, who most recently won a Tony for his choreography for Spring Awakening, to create a new full-evening work, tentatively titled A Good Man, inspired by Abraham Lincoln and celebrating the slain president's 2009 bicentennial.
