Sundance Institute & Wallis to Present COMPOSERSLAB: LA this Spring

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and the Sundance Institute Film Music Program are collaborating to present two events exploring the role of music in film: ComposersLab: LA On Stage with world-renowned composer Harry Gregson-Williams on Sunday, March 30 at 2:00pm; and ComposersLab: LA on Saturday, April 12 for composers working in film and television. Both programs will provide an intimate, behind-the-scenes look into the creative process of a film composer.

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera today announced Alan Silvestri will be the special guest film music composer for the 2014 Chattanooga International Film Music Festival, being held February 28 through March 2, 2014 in Chattanooga, TN. Alan Silvestri has scored over 80 films, including Back to the Future and its sequels, Predator, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, A Night at the Museum, Captain America and The Avengers. Silvestri was nominated for both an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Forrest Gump and The Polar Express. He has won three Grammy Awards for his work on The Bodyguard, Cast Away and Polar Express.

Sundance Institute and Skywalker Sound today announced that the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Sound will take place at Skywalker Ranch in 2013 and 2014 and also announced the artists that will participate in the 2013 Labs. This is the first time the two organizations will collaborate to support independent filmmakers and film composers and marks a significant expansion of the Institute's existing Composers Labs to include sound design.

2013 Shakespeare Festival Cast & Creative Team Announced

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the 2013 Shakespeare Festival. Festival Artistic Director Adrian Noble returns to San Diego for his fourth and final year of Festival programming. The internationally acclaimed director will helm productions of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and Tom Stoppard's classic farce, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Laurence Olivier Award-nominated director Ian Talbot will make his Old Globe debut with the enduring Shakespeare favorite A Midsummer Night's Dream. The 2013 Shakespeare Festival, performed in repertory in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, runs June 2 - Sept. 29. Subscription tickets from $66 to $270. Single tickets start at $29. A special tribute concert to Stephen Sondheim, including 17 premieres of commissioned works inspired by his songs, will be taking place at "Music in the Loft" in Chicago's historic Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Avenue, Suite 801, on April 7, 2013 at 3:00 pm. Concert pianist Anthony de Mare premieres 17 new pieces from The Liaisons Project, his landmark concert and commissioning project based on the work of legendary musical theater composer Stephen Sondheim. With LIAISONS, de Mare is building a brand new piano repertory, featuring 36 of today's most revered contemporary composers, that marries his reputation as a champion of contemporary classical music with his deep respect for Sondheim as one of the 20th century's great composers. The first 17 completed works from the LIAISONS project premiered on a 2012 multi-city tour that culminated with a sold-out performance at Symphony Space's Peter Jay Sharp Theater in April 2012. Another 17 will premiere during the 2013 season.

The producers of the new Broadway revival of THE HEIRESS have just announced that the production will recoup its $3 million capitalization during the final week of performances. The final performance is on Saturday, February 9th at 7:00 p.m. (note the new early curtain time) at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W. 48th St. NYC). THE HEIRESS will have played 27 previews and 117 regular performances.
