The 55th Annual Village Voice OBIE Awards were presented on Monday, May 17, 2010, at a ceremony held at Webster Hall in Manhattan. Co-hosted by Michael Cerveris and former OBIE winner Anika Noni Rose, the awards were presented by J. GPR Records, the new CD label specializing in Broadway, classical, spoken word and children's music, is sponsoring a poetry contest that will take place on Twitter, called TwItsPoetic, to celebrate National Poetry Month and the release of their first CD Poetic License: 100 Poems by 100 Performers.

The upcoming indie film, Breaking Upwards, is shaping up to be a stage star show, as Tony-winning actors Julie White, Andrea Martin and LaChanze, in addition to Peter Friedman, Olivia Thirlby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Pablo Schreiber join filmmakers Zoe Lister-Jone and her real-life boyfriend Daryl Wein in the new flick.
