The Gallery Players proudly announces its line up for The 13th Annual Black Box New Play Festival. The festival boasts the world premieres of 19 new plays, opening in Brooklyn Thursday, June 3rd with a new adaptation of CANDIDE, by TJ Edwards (The Pearl Theatre Company), directed by The Gallery Players' Executive Director Neal J. Today, May 4, New York based theater group, EBE Ensemble (Eric Alba, Artistic Director; Montgomery Sutton, Executive Director), announced that they are accepting submissions for their fourth annual new one-act play festival, Elephants on Parade 2011. Festival dates have not been announced.

If you have ever spent an afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and had the opportunity to study some of the sketches done by Michelangelo Buonarroti or Leonardo Da Vinci you will be able to understand the feeling that accompanies seeing a lesser work by a creative genius. The drawings are fascinating, eerily beautiful and perhaps ultimately more revealing than the artist's more famous works - still you are always acutely aware that you are observing sketches and not the Mona Lisa or The David.

The project, a brainchild of Rebellious Subjects Theatre (Lauren Ferebee and Patrick Woodall, Co-Artistic Directors), is the fourth produced by the young site-specific company (previous work includes Twelfth Night, Under Milk Wood, and Three Sisters).

The Gallery Players of Park Slope is proud to present The Tragedy of King Lear, its first production as part of newly-created Players Shakespeare. King Lear runs from Saturday evening, July 25th thru August 2nd with preview performances July 23rd & July 24th at 8pm, and July 25th at 2pm. Long-standing member of the Pearl Theatre Resident Acting Company and Gallery Players favorite, Dominic Cuskern*, will star as the tempestuous king.
