The Dramatists Guild Institute is proud to announce the continuation of its second year of continuing education classes for writers.  The Dramatists Guild, after years of discussion, designed a curriculum of classes that would combine their playwriting and musical theater writing seminars into a variety of extended educational classes - anything from a long weekend to something more rigorous that is six to ten weeks in duration. The classes, taught through the Dramatists Guild Institute, are offered to Guild and non-Guild members, with Guild members receiving a significant reduction in tuition. All classes are taught by prominent educators and master teachers.

The Old Globe presents the first show of its 2017-2018 Season, the world premiere musical Benny & Joon, with book by Kirsten Guenther, music by Nolan Gasser, and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein. Based on the beloved 1993 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture written by Barry Berman and Leslie McNeil, Benny & Joon is directed by Jack Cummings III, Artistic Director of New York's Transport Group.

Sundance Institute's Theatre Lab kicks off today with the announcement of this year's participating acting company and creative advisors. The Lab, which runs through July 30 at the Sundance Resort in Utah, is supervised by Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, and is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community. It's one of 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content.

Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber, will present WORLD VIEWS, a collection of new mini-musicals in concert, the culmination of Prospect's 2017 Musical Theater Lab. WORLD VIEWS, the company's 11th lab performance, will be presented tonight, July 8, 2017 at 8pm at The TimesCenter.

Red Lab Productions (Boris Akunin's Hamlet. A Version) will present the World Premiere of Lasha Bugadze's Navigator in Love, directed by Adam Knight (In the Room with Slant Theatre Project) as part of the Georgian-American Theatrical Feast, a festival of new works written by playwrights from the Republic of Georgia translated into English, July 13-August 6 at Teatro Circulo (64 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery) with performances on Thu 7/13, Fri 7/14, Sat 7/15, Sat 7/22, Wed 7/26, Thu 7/27, Fri 7/28, Fri 8/4 & Sat 8/5 @ 8pm, Sun 7/16, Sun 7/23 & Sun 8/6 @ 3pm. Sundance Institute today announced a characteristically diverse and eclectic slate of projects that will be developed at their Theatre Lab, July 14-30 at Sundance Resort in Utah. The Lab is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community, and for nearly four decades has creatively supported projects including Indecent, Appropriate, Fun Home and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.

Transport Group presents Picnic and Come Back, Little Sheba: William Inge in Repertory, directed by Artistic Director Jack Cummings III.

Beginning one week after the election, Primary Stages commissioned a collection of over 70 pieces written by a diverse array of playwrights from their artistic community. Each artist crafted a short monologue from the perspective of a character in America on the morning of November 9th.  Undertaking MORNING IN AMERICA acutely reflects the responsibility and capability of a non-profit, artist-focused organization to respond directly and rapidly to current events. Through readings, talk-backs and roundtable discussions, Primary Stages strives to create an accessible and energetic space where artists and audiences can come together as a community to share their stories and process their experiences.

The Vagabond Players continues its 101th season with Motherhood Out Loud, opening February 24, and continuing through March 19. Conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein, and directed by Rikki Howie Lacewell, the script is written by some of the best writers in theatre today: Leslie Ayvazian, Brooke Berman, David Cale, Jessica Goldberg, Beth Henley, Lameece Issaq, Claire LaZebnik, Lisa Loomer, Michele Lowe, Marco Pennette, Theresa Rebeck, Luanne Rice, Annie Weisman, and Cheryl L. West.

PREMIERES, the New York-based music theater organization whose mission is 'to bring new music theater to light,' is sharing the success of this season's Inner Voices, the biannual series of solo works featuring new teams of playwrights and composers, now playing through October 29th at The TBG Theatre (312 West 36th Street - between 8th & 9th Avenues). Recently announced as a Critic's Pick by The New York Times, this year's program will be filmed by The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts' Theatre on Film and Tape Archive on Monday, October 24th.
