Gotham Chamber Opera Names New Executive Director

Gotham Chamber Opera announces Edward Barnes as the company's new Executive Director, effective June 1, 2015. Mr. Barnes will succeed Gotham's previous executive director, David Bennett, who will become general director of the San Diego Opera. In addition, David Rubeo has been promoted to Associate Director.

From May 28 - June 7, 2015 Houston Ballet offers up a mixed repertory program titled Morris, Welch & Kylian featuring three of today's most dynamic and musical choreographers. A world premiere of The Letter V by acclaimed American choreographer Mark Morris, the world premiere of Stanton Welch's Zodiac and the revival of Ji?i Kylian's iconic Svadebka make this program a must-see for all ballet lovers. Zodiac is made possible through the generosity of Leticia Loya. Mark Morris Dance Group has grown so busy touring to places as far off as China or Timor that the company has not performed at BAM since 2012.   Morris's work was certainly welcomed with its minimalist, serene, and exceptionally music quality, epitomizing Balanchine's quote, "see the music, hear the dance."

In honour of International Dance Day, today's performance of locus plot will be pay-what-you-can at the door.

Princeton Ballet School to Host 2nd Annual Fashion Show, 6/12

On Friday, June 12, 2015 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at the Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman, NJ, Princeton Ballet School, the official school of American Repertory Ballet, will host its second annual fashion show: 'Turn Out for Fashion.' All proceeds of this event will support the Princeton Ballet School Scholarship Fund. Before the Fashion Show, on May 2, American Repertory Ballet will participate in Lord & Taylor's 'Charity Day: Shop Smart Do Good,' supporting Women's Health in our community.

NDI Receives $1.5 Million from Howard Gilman Foundation

National Dance Institute (NDI), the non-profit organization that has transformed the lives of millions of public school children through the arts, has announced a $1.5 million grant from the Howard Gilman Foundation, a foundation dedicated to the support of robust, innovative and promising performing arts organizations in New York City. NDI will name their state-of-the-art performance space at the National Dance Institute Center for Learning & the Arts in Harlem “The Howard Gilman Performance Space” in appreciation.

Gotham Chamber Opera Sets 15th Anniversary Season

Gotham Chamber Opera announces its 15th Anniversary Season, which will begin in the fall of 2015 with a 15th Anniversary Celebration Concert (date and venue tba). The season continues in February 2016 with Alessandro Stradella's 1675 San Giovanni Battista (Saint John the Baptist)in a co-production with the Netherlands Nationale ReisOpera, and a concert at (le) poisson rouge, 158 Bleecker Street, NYC, featuring a new work by David Hertzberg, winner of the Catherine Doctorow Prize for Music. The season concludes with the New York premiere of Charlie Parker's Yardbird, a co-production of the Apollo Theater, Gotham Chamber Opera and Opera Philadelphia, at the world famous Apollo Theater in May/June 2016.

Choreographer Liz Gerring to Receive $25,000 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award

This year's Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor carrying an unrestricted $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to contemporary choreographer Liz Gerring in recognition of her talent and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Active in the dance world for nearly 20 years, Gerring regularly garners acclaim for her 'enthralling and important' works (Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times) that also 'reveals the dancers as the splendid athletes that they are' (dance critic Deborah Jowitt). Gerring will accept the Award and members of Liz Gerring Dance Company will perform at the Pillow's Season Opening Gala on Saturday, June 20 in the Ted Shawn Theatre. The company will return to perform the evening-length work glacier in the Doris Duke Theatre August 19-23. Previous recipients of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award include tap artist Michelle Dorrance, the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham, 2013 MacArthur Fellow Kyle Abraham, and Tony Award winner and director of New York Live Arts Bill T. Jones, among others.

Northrop Announces 2015-2016 Season
