Today, Berkeley Repertory Theatre revealed that Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Obie Award- winning play, An Octoroon, will be the seventh and final production in its upcoming 2016-17 subscription season. The West Coast premiere of the reworking of the mid-19th-century play will be performed in the Peet's Theatre in June 2017.

Oh, the places you'll go! The Oregon Shakespeare Festival transports audiences to a ghostly Danish castle, dynastic China, and Oz's Emerald City when its outdoor theatre opens the weekend of June 17-19. The Allen Elizabethan Theatre will feature Hamlet, directed by Lisa Peterson; the classic 1970s musical The Wiz, directed by Robert O'Hara; and The Winter's Tale, directed by Desdemona Chiang. The shows will close the weekend of October 14-16.

Berkeley Rep, always a leader in generating timely theatrical work, announced today that a new adaptation of the classic novel IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE by Sinclair Lewis will open its 2016-17 season. The new adaptation will be created by Tony Taccone and screenwriter Bennett Cohen, and the production will be helmed by award-winning director Lisa Peterson.

Today, The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep's Center for the Creation and Development of New Work announces that it has selected 18 projects for its fifth Summer Residency Lab featuring works from more than 30 talented artists. This June, as part of an extraordinary laboratory for collaboration, some of the nation's most prominent and promising writers, directors, designers, performers, and composers will unite at the Theatre's Harrison Street campus over an intense four-week period to share ideas, break bread, and create new plays. Dozens more local and out-of-town actors and directors will join the Summer Residency Lab, bringing the number of participating artists close to 100.

Geva's Fielding Studio Series continues with the award-winning play AN ILIAD, written by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare, based on Homer's The Iliad, translated by Robert Fagles and directed by Jerry Genochio. California Shakespeare Theater announced today the final production selected to complete its 42nd season. Artistic Director Eric Ting will make his Cal Shakes debut with Shakespeare's Othello from September 14 through October 9 at the Bruns Amphitheater.
