NERDS Delays First Broadway Preview Date

The new musical dot-comedy Nerds will open at Broadway's Longacre Theatre on April 21st, 2016 following preview performances which were previously announced as beginning March 31st, but it appears previews have been bumped by a day. According to the Telecharge website, the show will begin previews on April 1st instead.

Producer Riki Kane Larimer (Fiddler on the Roof, Tappin' Thru Life, On The Town, Gigi)has announced the Off-Broadway transfer of The York Theatre Company's acclaimed production of the new musical, Cagney with book by Peter Colley (The Donnelly) and music & lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern (Fame, First Wives Club). Cagney received its New York premiere at The York Theatre Company, last spring, where it played a limited five-week sold out engagement. This new updated, expanded and revised version will begin performances begin on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. for an open-ended engagement at The Westside Theatre - Upstairs (407 West 43rd Street). Opening Night is set for Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.

On January 21, guests gathered at Drury Lane Theatre for the Opening Night of their newest production, Bye Bye Birdie, directed and choreographed by Tammy Mader. With a cast led by Michelle Aravena as Rosie, Matt Crowle as Conrad's agent, Albert, and Jason Michael Evans as Conrad Birdie, audiences were treated to a throwback of the classic 1950's musical, brought to life again by this energetic and lively ensemble of 31. On April 6th 2016 The Drury Lane Oakbrook Theatre will present the World Premiere of Hazel, a new musical based on the popular comic strip character and 1960's TV show. With music by Ron Abel, Lyrics by Chuck Steffan, book by Lissa Levin, and directed by Joshua Bergasse, it stars Klea Blackhurst in the title role. Bye Bye Birdie, the four-time Tony Award-winning musical, begins performances at Drury Lane on January 14 to conclude the 2015 - 2016 Season. The funny, irreverent musical takes audiences back to 1959 in quiet Sweet Apple, OH, where rock star Conrad Birdie shakes things up when he arrives to give one lucky teenage girl a special goodbye kiss. With a cast led by 2015 Jeff Award Best Supporting Actor winners Michelle Aravena as Rosie and Matt Crowle as Conrad's agent, Albert, Bye Bye Birdie is directed and choreographed by multiple Jeff Award winner Tammy Mader. Featuring musical theater classics such as "Kids," "Put on a Happy Face," and "A Lot of Livin' to Do," the inspired cast and creative team promise to bring a decidedly fresh touch to the timeless story.
Hartford Stage Receives $10,000 NEA Grant

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million in its first round of funding for fiscal year 2016, including an Art Works award of $10,000 to Hartford Stage to provide production support for the new musical Anastasia in May.

This evening, Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. revealed nominations for the 2014-2015 Atlanta professional theatrical season. The Suzi Nomination Party, which rotates venues, was hosted this year by Horizon Theatre.
