John Waters Comes to the Harris Theater in Chicago, 5/21

Director, writer, actor, and originator of the Hairspray dynasty John Waters returns to the Harris Theater on May 21 to perform his critically acclaimed one-man show, This Filthy World. Updated and expanded from the original film version by the same name, the man affectionately known as "The Pope of Trash" presents this hilarious evening focusing on his early negative influences, fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, extremes of the art world, Catholicism, sexual deviancy, and his love of reading. This is Waters' second visit to the Harris after his sold-out show in 2010.

Broadway veteran Matthew Morrison will soon release an album of Broadway standards, titled 'Where It All Began.' It will drop on June 4 as a part of Adam Levine's 222 Records. He told Billboard: 'I enjoyed the journey back to my roots on this new album. This is the album I've always wanted to make, and I am looking forward to sharing the experience with everyone.'

Today we are talking to a tremendously talented triple-threat who headlined the 2007 feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical HAIRSPRAY as Tracy Turnblad and who will be appearing in a recurring role on SMASH Season Two starting tonight - the spunky and adorable Nikki Blonsky. In this all-encompassing conversation, Blonsky and I dissect the HAIRSPRAY phenomenon and she reveals her affection for collaborators such as director Adam Shankman, co-stars John Travolta and Christopher Walken, as well as two more pairs of instrumental creative team members: songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman as well as producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, all four of whom serve the same roles on SMASH. Gay & Lesbian Center's Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center celebrates Black History Month with two concurrent free events highlighting some of the cultural contributions African Americans have made to our society: A Tribute to African American Authors, in which renowned actors and singers perform selected works; and a reception for the new exhibit Ain't Just Paint: Works from the CCH Pounder Collection. Both events take place today, Feb. 25, in the Renberg Theatre and Advocate & Gochis Galleries at the Center's Village at Ed Gould Plaza. The Tribute will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed immediately by a reception in the Galleries.
