The actor revealed that he did in fact audition for the role of Bilbo Baggins and tried his best to make an impression at his audition. Unfortunately he didn't get a call back.

I was able to catch a performance of THE LAST SHIP during previews. By intermission I knew I was looking forward to a cast recording of the musical, but I was largely uninterested in seeing the second act. I stuck it out and left inspired by the music and the cast's performances but entirely unmoved by the clunky book by John Logan and Brian Yorkey.

Today, December 23rd, Grammy Award winner STING will stop by LIVE WITH KELLY AND MICHAEL to chat about his Broadway musical, 'The Last Ship,' and perform a song from the production for the 'LIVE' audience.

A once-in-a-lifetime Broadway event took place yesterday, December 21, following the matinee performance of The Last Ship when patrons were invited to meet Sting and members of the cast on stage at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St.) as they signed copies of the recently released Original Broadway Cast Recording. 16-time Grammy Award winning musician Sting, who now stars in The Last Ship (for which he also composed the score), was joined by cast mates Michael Esper, Rachel Tucker,Jimmy Nail,Fred Applegate, Aaron Lazar, Sally Ann Triplett and Collin Kelly-Sordelet. Ted Sperling will conduct the New York Philharmonic and vocalists Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana in A Broadway Romance, a one-night-only Valentine's Day concert, Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. The program will feature songs from popular musicals ranging from Bernstein's West Side Story and Gershwin's Girl Crazy to Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel and Stephen Sondheim's Company, woven together to tell a unified narrative of a romance from beginning to end, from meeting to first date to falling in love to marriage.

Broadway Inspirational Voices (BIV) is set for a special one-night-only presentation of their 2014 'Stories In The Key Of Me' outreach program to the seriously ill children and families at Ronald McDonald House New York on Thursday December 18th, 5pm. Joining the roster of Broadway composers/songwriters this year is 16-time Grammy award winner STING and Pulitzer Prize award recipient Brian Yorkey. STING is currently performing in his acclaimed new Broadway musical,'The Last Ship' at the Neil Simon Theatre for which he composed the music and lyrics and Brian Yorkey and John Logan penned the book.

On the heels of the 16-time Grammy Award winner's sold-out, standing-room-only debut performance on Tuesday night, December 9, Sting's engagement in The Last Ship on Broadway has been extended through January 24, 2015, the musical's producers Jeffrey Seller and Kathryn Schenker announced. Originally scheduled to perform with the cast for five weeks, Sting will now appear for an additional two weeks in the role of Jackie White in The Last Ship at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St.). The hilarious one-woman play I'll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers currently plays as a season extra at the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City. John Logan (writer of Tornado!, Star Trek Nemesis, and The Last Samurai among others) wrote the one-act play specifically for Bette Midler who starred in the Broadway production in 2013 and later in Los Angeles.

Today, December 16, Universal Music Classics releases the Original Broadway Cast Album for The Last Ship, produced by the Emmy-Award winning and multi-Grammy-nominated producer Rob Mathes. The play is directed by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello and choreographed by Olivier Award-winner Steven Hoggett, with musical direction, orchestrations and arrangements also by Rob Mathes.
