Plays & Players will launch a new yearly series dedicated to introducing young audiences to the power of live theater. This season, P.L.A.Y. (Philadelphia Local Artists for Youth) premieres with Delaware Mudtub and the Mighty Wampum, a work that explores mythic animals local to the area -- the great blue heron, the red fox, and the box turtle, as well as the stories of the people once indigenous to the Delaware River -- the Lenni-Lenape.

Chicago's Music Box Theatre continues its collaboration with the UK's National Theatre Live, the best of British theatre broadcast live to cinemas worldwide. Up next: the great Simon Russell Beale takes the title role in Timon of Athens, based on Shakespeare's strange fable of consumption, debt and ruin, written in collaboration with Thomas Middleton and directed by Nicholas Hytner (Miss Saigon, The History Boys). The one-time Chicago showing happens Wednesday, November 28, 7 p.m. at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 North Southport Avenue. Highlights of the forthcoming productions at the National Theatre, announced today by Nicholas Hytner, include new plays by Alan Bennett, Stephen Beresford, Lisa D'Amour, James Graham and Lucy Prebble. There will be adaptations of Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Simon Stephens, and of The Count of Monte Cristo by Richard Bean. Enda Walsh's Misterman receives its London premiere; classic revivals include Polly Findlay's production of Sophocles' Antigone, Shakespeare's Timon of Athens directed by Nicholas Hytner, Bijan Sheibani's staging of Damned for Despair by Tirso de Molina, and Nadia Fall's production of Bernard Shaw's The Doctor's Dilemma.
