Morgan Freeman has been selected by the American Film Institute's (AFI) Board of Trustees to receive the 39th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film, it was announced today by Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees.

InProximity Theatre Company is proud to announce that Dorothy Lyman will be directing the upcoming production of SIGHT UNSEEN by Donald Margulies (Time Stands Still, Collected Stories, Brooklyn Boy, Dinner With Friends, God of Vengeance, Pitching to the Star, Nocturne, Luna Park, Found a Peanut, The Loman Family Picnic). The show will feature Laurie Schaefer, Jonathan Todd Ross, Brent Vimtrup, and Bryn Boice. Designers include James J. Fenton (scenic), Lisa Soverino (Lighting), Court Watson (Costumes), and Jeremy Lee (sound). The Production Stage Manager is Jasmin Sanchez.

To overcome the challenges of a struggling economy, theater professionals need to strengthen their skills in order to bring their projects to fruition. To this end, Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents a powerful full-day TRU Boot Camp to help theater professionals (and others) shape up their ideas and turn them into reality: PITCHING & PRESENTATION SKILLS, A One-Day Workshop for Producers, Writers and Anyone with an Idea to Sell! taught by a lineup of experts including marketing professional Sharon Albert, Ph.D. and presentation coach Gillien Goll. The workshop takes place on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 10am-6pm at The Players Theatre, Room 3C, 115 MacDougal Street (below W. 3rd Street), NYC. Workshop fee is $150 ($25 off for members of TRU). Early bird registrants save $25 and pay $125 if they sign up by 9/17.

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted last night to present the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producer-director Francis Ford Coppola and Honorary Awards to historian and preservationist Kevin Brownlow, director Jean-Luc Godard and actor Eli Wallach.

Sheldon Concert Hall announces two additional concerts on 10/22 and 10/29. Three folk-rock favorites come to town on 10/22, and include Denny Laine, Terry Sylvester and John Ford Coley. The Gaslight Theatre of Enid, Oklahoma, was founded in 1966 under its original name of Enid Community Theatre. Gaslight is one of Oklahoma's oldest and most active community theatres. The theatre is located at 221 N Independence. The current theatre was purchased and fully renovated with tremendous community support.
