Birdland Jazz Club has announced its schedule for August 4 - August 10, featuring Django Reinhardt NY Festival 15th Anniversary Celebration, Jane Monheit's Jazz Party, Daniel Reichard, Loston Harris, and more!

This past Monday marked the fifteenth edition of 'Victoria Shaw: Under The Covers' in the past ten years of the Broadway at Birdland concert series That's a lot of really great music and insider stories told by some of country music's top hit-makers, superstars and up-and-comers. Birdland Jazz Club is pleased to announce their amazing line-up of talent for July 28- August 3. Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with the following acts.

Tony Award-winner Nikki M. James, currently in the new Les Miserables, joined three other Broadway performers - Benjamin Howes of Scandalous and Mary Poppins, Brian Gonzales of Aladdin and Natalie Joy Johnson of Kinky Boots, accompanied by musical director Nate Buccieri - in a special musical revue, titled 'Putting It Together,' featuring Stephen Sondheim songs, at Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. Well after Broadway orchestra's begin their overtures, ensemble members take their dance breaks, and performers belt out their eleven- o'clock numbers, the party continues at various cabaret venues throughout New York City. On Sunday night, Birdland was proud to launch a new summer series, "Jane Monheit's Jazz Party," which will continue through September. The series provides Jane the opportunity to develop new material, and to collaborate with invited musical guests in a relaxed environment that is part concert, part jam session, part workshop and all fun. Since I attended more than 50 shows over the past eight months (a few more than once)--the large majority of which were reviewed on these web pages—I felt I had more than enough cabaret show inventory to present my second-annual “Mid-Year Cabaret Review” citing the “20 Best Cabaret Shows and Performances” for the first half of 2014. Since the eligibility period for 2014 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Award consideration begins with shows staged since last November (late October if it was the first of a run), I've included a few of those late 2013 shows in this group. And with the announcement of the BWW Award nominees just four months away, I've offered some projections on the Award categories for which these shows very well might receive consideration.

On Monday, June 30, the Broadway at Birdland concert series presented multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer Frank Wildhorn in his regular series called 'Frank & Friends.' This particular show, 'Girls Night Out!' found Frank onstage with Broadway leading ladies Jackie Burns (If/Then), Teal Wicks (Wicked), Adrienne Warren (Bring It On) and jazz vocalist Jane Monheit (Jane Monheit's Jazz Party at Birdland). There are still some spaces available in Usdan Center's special three-week season, which runs July 28 to August 15. Introduced last year, the program was so successful that it returns. Usdan, America pre-eminent summer arts day camp, has just begun its 47th season at its 200-acre woodland campus in the Huntington area of Long Island.

Musical Theater composer Scott Alan has a music video in the works that fans can submit to be a part of. Alan writes on his Tumblr:

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the renowned Long Island summer arts day camp now beginning its 47th season on June 30, will feature award-winning professional artists of music, dance and theater on its unique 'Festival Concerts' series. The daily performances give its 1600 students ages 6-18 major exposure to the best of the arts.

The fourth annual 'Night Of A Thousand Judys' -- presented by The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre -- welcomed stars including Sierra Boggess (The Phantom of the Opera), Austin Scarlett ('Project Runway'), Karen Wyman (celebrated 60s pop singer), Alison Fraser (two-time Tony Award nominee), Jackie Hoffman (Hairspray) and Aaron Weinstein (acclaimed jazz violinist), as well as Jane Monheit (Grammy Award nominated jazz star), Sarah Dash (R&B/Disco legend of LaBelle), Rory O'Malley (Tony Award nominee, The Book of Mormon,) Julia Murney (Wicked, The Wild Party), Erin McKeown (folk-rock singer/songwriter) and Gabrielle Stravelli (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra).
