On Today, December 2, 2016 medici.tv will broadcast what is being billed as the world premiere of Funeral Song, Igor Stravinsky's recently rediscovered work for orchestra, live from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg with Maestro Valery Gergiev leading the Mariinsky Orchestra. The program will also include Stravinsky's The Firebird and Rimsky-Korsakov's Suite from The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA) announces a program change for its subscription concerts on April 6-11, 2017.  Igor Stravinsky's recently rediscovered Funeral Song (Pogrebal'naya Pesnya), replaces Glinka's Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila in these concerts. Conductor Charles Dutoit leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in the U.S. premiere of the Stravinsky work on Thursday, April 6 at 8 p.m. Dvo?ak's Cello Concerto with Truls Mork as soloist and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5 remain on the program, as previously announced.

In this first installment of the CSO's Russian Winter Festival, Music Director Rossen Milanov will conduct this exciting collaboration featuring the musicians of the CSO and principal dancers of BalletMet in unparalleled performances of Stravinsky's fascinating Petrouchka and selections from Prokofiev's romantic Romeo and Juliet. BBC New Generation Artist Elena Urioste will also perform Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, providing a perfect complement to this not-to-be-missed evening of Russian music. An orchestral work by the young Igor Stravinsky, assumed lost for over a century, receives its first performance in modern times in St Petersburg on 2 December. Funeral Song (Pogrebal'naya Pesnya) was composed by the 26-year-old composer as a memorial tribute to his beloved teacher Rimsky-Korsakov and, as his op.5, is the missing link between his early Fireworks and Scherzo Fantastique and his ballet The Firebird, written for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, which launched Stravinsky's international career.
