Huntington/Coolidge Collaboration to Continue with NETWORK and THE POWER OF DUFF, 10/14

Stage & Screen, a collaboration between Coolidge Corner Theatre and Huntington Theatre Company that explores the depictions of shared themes in Huntington productions and acclaimed films begins its second season of collaboration on Monday, October 14 at 7pm with Sidney Lumet's Academy Award-winning film Network. The screening will be followed by a conversation with playwright, screenwriter, and film director Stephen Belber and others from the Huntington's production of The Power of Duff.

Lydia R. Diamond Named Resident Playwright at Arena Stage

Artistic Director Molly Smith announced today, playwright Lydia R. Diamond, whose impressive body of work includes Stick Fly, Voyeurs de Venus, The Bluest Eye and The Gift Horse, among others, will become a resident playwright as part of the American Voices New Play Institute at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Diamond's yearlong residency will begin Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Co. to Present East Coast Premiere of APPROPRIATE, 11/4-12/1

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company is pleased to announce the East Coast premiere of Appropriate, an audacious comic drama written by native Washingtonian Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and directed by Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed). Jacobs-Jenkins' brazen reimagining of the classic Southern family drama will continue Woolly's season-long excavation of the secrets that lie beneath America's sunny exterior.

JUNGLE BOOK Orchestra to Perform 'Out of the Jungle' at Johnny D's Uptown, 10/6

The twelve-piece jazz/Indian fusion orchestra from the Huntington Theatre Company's production of The Jungle Book will perform Out of the Jungle at Johnny D's Uptown in Somerville on Sunday, October 6 at 8:15pm. The one-night-only event is a cross-cultural celebration inspired by the collaboration among the orchestra's six Indian and six jazz musicians. Under the creative direction of Doug Peck, the ensemble will leave the score from the show behind to perform sets of North and South Indian traditional music and original and jazz standards - genres that both draw heavily on improvisation - in their unique style that combines the sounds of east and west.

Huntington Theatre Company just extended the run of its world premiere adaptation of The Jungle Book - the final performance will now be Sunday, October 20. Due to popular demand, the Huntington Theatre Company again extends the run of its world premiere adaptation of The Jungle Book - the final performance will now be Sunday, October 20. The 'inventive and visually stunning' (Entertainment Weekly) production officially opens tonight, Wednesday, September 18 at 7pm at the Huntington's mainstage, the Boston University Theatre.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the World Premiere comedy The Few by award-winning playwright Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale). Directed by Davis McCallum, The Few will run Sept. 28 - Oct. 27, 2013 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run Sept. 28 - Oct. 2. Dallas Theater Center launches its 2013-14 season with A Raisin in the Sun. Tre Garrett of Fort Worth's Jubilee Theatre will make his directorial debut at DTC with this Tony Award-winning play. A Raisin in the Sun begins with a Pay-What-You-Can performance tonight, September 13 and runs through Sunday, October 27 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

David Wilson Barnes (Becky Shaw at Second Stage Theatre and London's Almeida Theatre) plays Charlie Duff, a burnt-out local newscaster who transforms first his community and then himself when he begins praying on-air in the Huntington Theatre Company's new production of Stephen Belber's moving new drama The Power of Duff. Amy Pietz ('The Office,' 'Caroline in the City') plays Duff's ex-wife Lisa, and Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein, Friends with Kids) plays Sue, Charlie's co-anchor, in the production helmed by Huntington Artistic Director Peter DuBois. Performances begin on October 11 at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA. The Power of Duff is produced in association with New York Stage and Film and Vassar's Powerhouse Theater.

Jen Silverman Receives 2013 Yale Drama Series Award for STILL Today

Playwright Jen Silverman will receive the 2013 Yale Drama Series award for her new play Still this evening, September 12 at Lincoln Center Theater's Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street). The evening will include the presentation to the playwright of the David Charles Horn Prize, a cash award of $10,000, and a staged reading of Still, directed by Kate Whoriskey, featuring Jeanine Seralles, Chris Grant, Birgit Huppuch and Elvy Yorst.
