Young Artists Perform for $43,000 in The 39th Annual Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition This Weekend

As the cap to an extraordinary Centennial Season, the 39th annual Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition, hosted by the Houston Symphony League, will take place today, May 29 and Saturday, May 31 in Stude Concert Hall at Rice University. Ten Semi-Finalists from across the globe will compete for not only a chance at a much-coveted monetary prize but also a chance to perform with the Houston Symphony in the solo spotlight.

Houston Symphony's Concert with Linda Eder Rescheduled for Tonight

Heavy snow and icy conditions along the U.S. East Coast previously prevented guest artist Linda Eder and her band from traveling to Houston for a Valentine's Day concert with the Houston Symphony. Administrators rescheduled the Friday, February 14 performance to tonight, May 29, when Linda Eder and her band are able to travel to Houston.

Today, April 22, the Houston Symphony will perform its first free concert at Discovery Green. Celebrating joint anniversaries, the Houston Symphony's Centennial Season and Discovery Green's sixth birthday, the two organizations will be joining forces to create a unique outdoor event open to all. Led by Concertmaster Frank Huang, the concert will include a performance of Astor Piazzolla's tango-inspired Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, a set of four tango compositions representing the four seasons, alongside Tchaikovsky's famous Serenade for Strings.

Conductor Laureate Hans Graf will return to the podium to lead the orchestra in Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet today, April 10 and April 12 and 13, followed directly by Music Director Designate Andres Orozco-Estrada's return to conduct Bronfman Play Beethoven 4 on April 17, 18 and 19.

East Coast Storm Impacts Houston Symphony's Valentines Day Concert with Linda Eder, Rescheduled to 5/29

Heavy snow and icy conditions along the U.S. East Coast are preventing guest artist Linda Eder and her band from traveling to Houston for a Valentine's Day concert with the Houston Symphony. Administrators have rescheduled the Friday, February 14 performance to Thursday, May 29, when Linda Eder and her band are able to travel to Houston. All tickets for the original February 14 concert with Linda Eder will be honored on May 29. Ticket holders don't need to take any action, although they may opt to exchange their tickets for another Symphony performance in the Classical or POPS line-up (certain exclusions apply).

ANDRES OROZCO-ESTRADA TO CONDUCT HOUSTON SYMPHONY FOR THE FIRST TIME AS MUSIC DIRECTOR DESIGNATE

On October 17, 18, 19 and 20, the Houston Symphony's Music Director Designate Andres Orozco-Estrada will return to Houston for the first time since his announcement on January 16 as the Symphony's next Music Director. Committed to engaging Symphony audiences, the Colombian-born and Vienna-trained conductor will lead a performance at Sugar Land Baptist Church as part of the Symphony's Sugar Land Series in addition to three concerts at Jones Hall, which include an ACCESS concert on Friday. In addition to the Symphony's performances of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, accomplished and unrivaled violinist Midori will dazzle audiences with Mendelssohn's virtuosic Violin Concerto at all four performances.
