Houston Symphony Pays Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald

The Houston Symphony will kick off the 2017-18 BBVA Compass POPS Series with Ella at 100, a celebration of jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald during her 100th birthday year. Led by Principal POPS Conductor Steven Reineke in the first concert of his inaugural season, the program will feature Fitzgerald favorites including 'Dream a Little Dream of Me,' 'It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)' and 'Summertime.'

Founding Artistic Director of Gloucester Stage Company returns to direct the New England premiere of his latest comedy, OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES. Paula Plum, Sarah Hickler, Obehi Janice, and Debra Wise play four diverse women who meet in a spacious Paris apartment to remember and memorialize the recently departed 100-year old man who had lived there and loved them all during the last half century.

Susan Miller's 20TH CENTURY BLUES Gets New York Premiere

Producer Lida Orzeck and Executive Producer Eva Price are pleased to announce the New York premiere of the new play, 20TH CENTURY BLUES, from Susan Smith Blackburn Prize-winner and two-time OBIE Award-winning playwright Susan Miller (My Left Breast). Two-time OBIE Award-winner and Tony Award-nominee Emily Mann (Having Our Say, Anna in the Tropics) will direct the 10-week limited engagement beginning November 12 with performances through January 28 and an official opening night set for November 26. 20TH CENTURY BLUES will play at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 W. 42nd Street).

Maestro LUKE FRAZIER and THE AMERICAN POPS ORCHESTRA — Washington, DC's innovative hometown orchestra — have announced their all-star 2017-2018 season. The diverse line-up will include a tribute to legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin, a special evening combining yoga with the APO's favorite standards, a new family show based on the classic tale Around the World in 80 Days, and a program celebrating the wit of iconic songwriter Cole Porter. Unless otherwise noted, all shows are at the Orchestra's new home, Arena Stage at The Mead Center for American Theater (1101 Sixth Street SW). August Performances Announced at Blue Note Hawaii

An eclectic lineup is featured this month at Blue Note Hawaii with an array of iconic national artists, local favorites and hilarious comedians. The Henry Kapono Artist to Artist Series continues with Jerry Santos of Olomana, followed by local greats Shawn Pimental and Lehua Kalima, one-man wonder Tavana, Kapono N??ili?ili, Brother Noland and of course the incomparable Willie K. The Blue Note Hawaii Comedy Series continues this month with Steve Byrne and Louie Anderson. National recording artist and GRAMMY Award-winning R&B icon Regina Belle kicks off the month and is book ended with a capella phenoms Take 6. More artists this month include bandoneon player JP Jofre and his Nuevo Tango Quartet, the amazing flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert and pop singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson. There are also two late-night shows with self-proclaimed blues road dog G Love, following his performances at the sold-out Jack Johnson concerts.
