This Today, May 20, 11-piece Ethiopian funk-rock group, Debo Band, releases their sophomore album, Ere Gobez.

Debo Band raises the roof on the Ethiopian musical past, picking up where political upheaval of the 1970s and 1980s quenched the energy of one of East Africa's most prolific, vibrant scenes.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet interprets two incomparable Rock Music innovators who both transcended the limits of Rock And Roll music.

The 24th International Duke Ellington Study Group Conference will be presented by the Duke Ellington Center for the Arts (DECFA) in New York City starting tomorrow (Thursday, May 19) Duke Ellington and continuing through Sunday, May 22, 2016.

This new musical features lyrics by Al Dubin, music mostly by Harry Warren, book by Jerry Leichtling and Arlene Sarner, and musical direction by Gerald Sternbach. Birdland Jazz Club has announced its lineup for May 23-29, featuring Eliane Elias, A Sophisticated Reunion: Terri Klausner, Valerie Pettiford and Ty Stephens, Bill O'Connell and the Latin Jazz All-Stars, and more. 

The American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice have announced that legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney will each receive a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 61st Annual Obie Awards, which will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). Tickets to the 2016 Obie Awards are now available via www.ObieAwards.com.

Producer Corky Hale's I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU - The Life and Lyrics of Al Dubin, features lyrics by Al Dubin, most music by Harry Warren, a book by Jerry Leichtling and Arlene Sarner, and musical direction by Gerald Sternbach.  The production is directed and choreographed by  Kay Cole.  BroadwayWorld TV's own LA on-air Host Michael Sterling was invited to take a sneak peek at rehearsals last week and interview some of the show's stars and creative team.  

The spirit of jazz legends Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald (with a little Tito Puente) was palpable in the Milton Berle room at New York's Friars Club on April 25 for the second-annual production of Triple Threats. Broadway veterans (including Duke's granddaughter, Mercedes Ellington, who also co-produced the show) joined some of America's most accomplished jazz musicians to celebrate the April birthdays of the music greats and to honor those performers who sing, dance, and act at the highest levels.

Last night many beautiful people came to the concluding night of Ann Hampton Callaway's new show 'But Beautiful' at Birdland. BroadwayWorld was there for the final performance. Check out photos below!
