Garrett + Moulton Presents THE LUMINOUS EDGE, Now thru 9/20

Award-winning choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will present the premiere ofThe Luminous Edge, a new evening-length dance theater work that explores themes of transcendence, hope and rebirth. The deeply expressive and theatrical work will feature six Garrett + Moulton dance soloists and an ensemble of 18 additional dancers who will serve as a 'movement choir'-a theatrical form used by Garrett and Moulton in their 2009 and 2011 productions, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories and The Experience of Flight in Dreams. Performances of The Luminous Edge will be given Thursday-Saturday, today, September 18-20, at 8 PM and Sunday, September 21, at 3 PM and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater is located at 701 Mission Street.

Plácido Domingo has announced that LA Opera will inaugurate a new biannual series of free live video broadcasts sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. The inaugural presentation, Verdi's La Traviata, will be broadcast live in high-definition from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to the big screen at the Santa Monica Pier today, September 17 at 7:30pm. The performance will star Nino Machaidze, Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Mr. Domingo, and will be conducted by James Conlon.

Last night, after a week of competition that brought 40 young singers from 17 nations to Los Angeles, Placido Domingo announced that Rachel Willis-Sorensen, an American soprano, and Mario Chang, a Guatemalan tenor, took the top prizes tonight in the 22nd edition of Operalia, the World Opera Competition. Hosted by LA Opera at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the weeklong contest culminated tonight in a Gala Finals Concert-featuring the LA Opera Orchestra conducted by Mr. Domingo at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion-which was streamed live on Medici TV.

General Director Plácido Domingo has announced final details for LA Opera's first revival of Florencia en el Amazonas, an enchanting and romantic opera by composer Daniel Catán. Co-commissioned by LA Opera in 1995, the opera returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for six performances from November 22 through December 20, 2014. In the exquisitely beautiful opera, inspired by the fiction of Gabriel García Márquez, a steamboat passage along the fabled Amazon becomes a poignant voyage of discovery for all seven travelers on board.

Now Forever Flamenco returns to the outdoor stage at the Ford Theatres with this passionate expression of Spanish culture. A roster of internationally renowned flamenco artists will pay tribute to Los Angeles flamenco pioneer Roberto Amaral tonight, Aug. 9 at 8:30 p.m. at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood.
