San Francisco, CA, February 26, 2015 – By popular demand, award-winning choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will stage encore performances of The Luminous Edge, their highly successful evening-length dance theater work that premiered in September, 2014. Premiere performances sold out in 2014 and the work made multiple Bay Area critics' top-choice lists for the year, making it one of the choreographers' most popular and successful works to date. The deeply expressive and theatrical work explores themes of transcendence, hope and rebirth and features six Garrett + Moulton dance soloists and an 18-dancer “movement choir”—a theatrical form also used by Garrett and Moulton in their 2009 and 2011 productions, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories and The Experience of Flight in Dreams. Performances of The Luminous Edge will be given Thursday-Saturday, July 9-11, at 8 PM and Sunday, July 12, at 3 PM, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, located at 701 Mission Street. Pierre Beaumarchais' 1792 play The Guilty Mother, the last and least-known of the French playwright's trilogy of stage comedies about the adventures of Figaro, will be presented in a 'radio theater-style performance' by LA Theatre Works in partnership with LA Opera. A highlight of LA Opera's Figaro Unbound celebration, The Guilty Mother will be directed by Michael Hackett, with performances taking place at 8pm on February 13 and 14 at UCLA's James Bridges Theater (235 Charles E. Plácido Domingo, LA Opera's Eli and Edythe Broad General Director, has announced the company's 2015/16 season. This will be the 30th season presented by the company, created by Mr. Domingo in collaboration with Richard Seaver Music Director James Conlon and President and CEOChristopher Koelsch. The company's 30th anniversary season will include six mainstage productions and two concerts at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, with a total of 40 performances taking place in that venue, as well as 13 performances presented elsewhere through the company's Off Grand initiative. The season will open onSeptember 12, 2015, and will run through June 19, 2016. (more...)

(90210), a contemporary adaptation of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, presented by LA Opera in its world premiere staging at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre from January 16 through 18. Showcasing Mozart's score with an entirely new English (and Spanglish) libretto by Vid Guerrerio, ¡Figaro! (90210) recasts the title character and his fiancée as undocumented Mexican workers in the present-day Beverly Hills mansion iof a real estate mogul and his actress wife. (more...)

LA Opera General Director Plácido Domingo announced updated details for the west coast premiere of John Corigliano's magnificently haunting 1991 opera,The Ghosts of Versailles, which receives its long awaited west coast debut on February 7 as the initial production of LA Opera'sFigaro Trilogy. Featuring a libretto by noted playwright William C. General Director Plácido Domingo has announced final details for LA Opera's first revival of Florencia en el Amazonas, an enchanting and romantic opera by composer Daniel Catán. Co-commissioned by LA Opera in 1995, the opera returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for six performances from tonight, November 22 through December 20, 2014. In the exquisitely beautiful opera, inspired by the fiction of Gabriel García Márquez, a steamboat passage along the fabled Amazon becomes a poignant voyage of discovery for all seven travelers on board.
