LA Opera concludes its 2014/15 season with the west coast premiere of Dog Days, a shocking work by composer David T. Little and librettist Royce Vavrek that incorporates elements of opera, musical theater and rock. Based on a powerful short story by Judy Budnitz, Dog Days is set in the aftermath of an unimaginable catastrophe as a family struggles to survive. The teenage daughter clings to hope, unwilling to accept their dire situation, until a disturbing stranger shows up at the doorstep. (more...)

LA Opera is collaborating with Classical KUSC 91.5fm to produce the ninth consecutive season of LA Opera On Air, a weekly broadcast series of LA Opera performances recorded live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Beginning with Verdi's La Traviata, starring Nino Machaidze and Plácido Domingo at 10am on Saturday, May 16, 2015, the weekly series hosted by KUSC's Duff Murphy will feature five performances from LA Opera's 2014/15 season and a special encore broadcast of Jules Massenet's Thaïs from the 2013/14 season. The series will be broadcast locally on Classical KUSC 91.5fm, its repeater stations (see below) and also streamed live online at KUSC.org. (more...)

Trevore Ross stages this splendid revival of a production originally created by Spanish director Emilio Sagi for the Teatro Real in Madrid. Thanks to his stellar ensemble who do the lion's share of changing the sets while playing multiple roles, the opera is just as lovely to watch as it is to hear with the entire cast harmonizing spectacularly and playing their parts for all the laughs they can muster. San Francisco, CA, February 26, 2015 – By popular demand, award-winning choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will stage encore performances of The Luminous Edge, their highly successful evening-length dance theater work that premiered in September, 2014. Premiere performances sold out in 2014 and the work made multiple Bay Area critics' top-choice lists for the year, making it one of the choreographers' most popular and successful works to date. The deeply expressive and theatrical work explores themes of transcendence, hope and rebirth and features six Garrett + Moulton dance soloists and an 18-dancer “movement choir”—a theatrical form also used by Garrett and Moulton in their 2009 and 2011 productions, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories and The Experience of Flight in Dreams. Performances of The Luminous Edge will be given Thursday-Saturday, July 9-11, at 8 PM and Sunday, July 12, at 3 PM, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, located at 701 Mission Street. Pierre Beaumarchais' 1792 play The Guilty Mother, the last and least-known of the French playwright's trilogy of stage comedies about the adventures of Figaro, will be presented in a 'radio theater-style performance' by LA Theatre Works in partnership with LA Opera. A highlight of LA Opera's Figaro Unbound celebration, The Guilty Mother will be directed by Michael Hackett, with performances taking place at 8pm on February 13 and 14 at UCLA's James Bridges Theater (235 Charles E.
