PBS will air Spike Lee's film adaptation of PASSING STRANGE in 2010. The film recently had its New York premiere when it played the Tribeca Film festival. Passing Strange will air as part of PBS' 'Great Performances'.

Passing Strange- the film directed by Spike Lee is showing at Sundance 2009 and is gaining raves from both critics and audiences alike at the famous Utah film festival. The film is being screened during the Spectrum Documentary Spotlight program through Feb. 25, 2009. Celebrated director Spike Lee filmed two of the show's final performances to preserve it for future generations and it is premiering to much acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. Spike Lee -- the director of such memorable films as 'Inside Man,' the upcoming 'Miracle at St. Anna,' (release 9/26/08), 'Do The Right Thing,' 'Malcolm X,' and 'She's Gotta Have It,' -- will direct a film of the award-winning Broadway musical PASSING STRANGE, it has been announced by Steve Klein, who is a co-producer of PASSING STRANGE on Broadway and will produce the film with Mr. Lee.

The Broadway musical PASSING STRANGE will end its run at the Belasco Theatre (111 W. 44 St.) following the matinee performance on Sunday, July 20. The show will have played 20 previews and 165 performances.

The critically acclaimed Broadway musical PASSING STRANGE is currently nominated for 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. With book and lyrics by the popular singer/songwriter Stew, and with music by Stew and his longtime musical partner Heidi Rodewald, PASSING STRANGE is directed by and created in collaboration with Annie Dorsen. PASSING STRANGE is the tale of a young black musician on a journey of escape and exploration: leaving the confines of his middle-class, church-reared youth in south central L.A., the further he travels the more he discovers the voyage within is the one that counts.

On Wednesday June 11, 2008 the Theatre World Awards for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut performances during the 2007-2008 theatrical season took place. The awards were presented by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Alec Baldwin (Loot, 1986), Griffin Dunne (Search and Destroy, 1992), Alexander Gemignani (Assassins, 2004), Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, 1993), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, 2007), Rosie Perez (References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, 2001), and B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly, 1988). There were also be performances by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Karen Akers (Nine, 1982), Cheyenne Jackson (All Shook Up, 2005), Carol Lawrence (West Side Story, 1958) and Alice Playten (Henry, Sweet Henry, 1968).
