HotCity Theatre, a professional theatre company with a focus on contemporary programming and new play development announces the production of the company's 5th Annual GreenHouse New Play Festival. Three plays 'in progress' are chosen from over 250 submitted by playwrights all over the world. Each script is given a workshop that includes professional directors on staff at HotCity, a professional dramaturg (a literary drama scholar) and professional local actors. This workshop provides a springboard for re-writes, culminating in readings at the festival by professional actors and adjudicated by HotCity artistic staff. At the festival event, scripts are performed as staged readings, followed by talkback sessions where you, the patrons, are given the opportunity to offer your thoughts and ask questions of the playwrights.

Julia Stiles Joins Fifth Season Of DEXTER

Acclaimed actress Julia Stiles has joined the cast of SHOWTIME's Emmy(R) nominated drama series DEXTER. Stiles, who will appear in ten episodes in the upcoming fifth season, will play a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in the wake of the death of his wife. Production on season five begins this month and will premiere in the fall on SHOWTIME.

?Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) on Navy Pier closes the 2010/11 Subscription Series with The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare's spark-filled comedy of an unconventional courtship. Returning to CST to direct the production is London's Bush Theatre Artistic Director Josie Rourke following her celebrated production of Twelfth Night last season. Casting is complete for Goodman Theatre's Chicago-premiere production of Tracey Scott Wilson's The Good Negro, directed by Resident Director Chuck Smith. Bougere (Broadway's A Raisin in the Sun; The Tempest); Tory O. Davis (Goodman's Magnolia); John Hoogenakker (Goodman's Rock 'n' Roll; Chicago Shakespeare's Othello); Billy Eugene Jones (Broadway's Passing Strange; Radio Golf); Nambi Kelley (Goodman's Crumbs from the Table of Joy; Victory Gardens' The Lost Boys of Sudan); Demetrios Troy (Northlight's Awake and Sing; Chicago Shakespeare's Richard III); Dan Waller (Goodman's Ghostwritten; Talking Pictures) and Mick Weber (Goodman's Rock 'n' Roll; Chicago Theatre's Shear Madness). The production will run from May 1 - June 6, 2010.

The Mandalay Bay Events Center at Mandalay Bay will present Lilith Fair on Friday, July 9. It has been nearly 11 years since the last tour and Lilith is back. The tour will feature a rotating list of more than 80 eclectic and notable female acts. Much like the original Lilith Fair, there will be 11 artists on each date with only two consistencies per show - the Lilith Local Talent Search ourstage.com winner, who will kick off the show, and headliner Sarah McLachlan. Additional artists scheduled to perform include Elizaveta, Miranda Lambert, Susan Justice, Queen Latifah, The Bangles, A Fine Frenzy, Emmylou Harris and Marina & the Diamonds.

The Ross Valley Players has announced auditions for its fall production of 'November.' 'November,' a political comedy by David Mamet, will be directed by James Dunn. The play is about President Charles 'Chucky' Smith who is nearing the end of his first term and dealing with the unfavorable prospects that he will be elected for a second term.

Butz, Murphy, Irwin et al. Begin Filming 'Higher Ground' in New York

Variety.com reports that Norbert Leo Butz (Tony-winner for DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS), Donna Murphy (Tony-winner for PASSION and THE KING AND I), and Bill Irwin (Tony-winner for WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?) are set to appear in the upcoming 'Higher Ground,' now filming in New York state. Vera Farmiga (Academy Award-nominee for 'Up in the Air') will direct and star in the film, which will also feature Joshua Leonard ('Humpday'). The screenplay is based on a memoir by Carolyn Briggs about her experiences with radical Christianity.
