This year, today, October 2 - 4, PRELUDE, the festival dedicated to artists at the forefront of contemporary New York City theater and performance, celebrates its 10th anniversary. As always, PRELUDE.13 is sure to draw overflow crowds to the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the Graduate Center, CUNY, where an array of artists working in theatrical, interdisciplinary and mediatized performance will offer in-process presentations, open rehearsals, and discussions-all for free.

On Monday, September 30, 2013, The New York Innovative Theatre Awards (IT Awards), the organization dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway,and host comedian and Andy Kauffman Award winner, Harrison Greenbaum, announced the 2013 award recipients at the ninth Annual IT Awards Ceremony atMason Hall @ Baruch Performing Arts Center, 17 Lexingont Avenue, NYC. The ceremony was directed by Tim Butterfield, Artistic Director of the Straphanger Collective, and written by playwright Donnetta Lavinia Grays, 2013 Doric Wilson Independent Playwright Award recipient. New York Live Arts today announced the artists of the 2013-2014 Studio Series, Live Arts' creative residency program which serves as a research laboratory for physical explorations and new movement investigations. The 2013-2014 Studio Series artists include (in chronological order): Elena Demyanenko and Dai Jian, Cynthia Hopkins (in partnership with the Watermill Center), Sam Kim, Mariana Valencia, Saul Ulerio, Jon Kinzel, Cori Olinghouse, Rashaun Mitchell and Jimena Paz.

After many years in donated and rental space, St. Ann's Warehouse has officially secured a permanent home in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Mayor Bloomberg announced that the Brooklyn Bridge Park Board of Directors has approved a long-term lease with the internationally renowned arts organization to develop a year-round performing arts facility and community hub in the Tobacco Warehouse, an iconic structure on the waterfront in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The announcement follows the recent completion of the federal conversion process enabling St. Ann's Warehouse to activate the space. The organization will break ground later this fall (date TBA), beginning the process to preserve and adapt the historic pre-Civil War building. St. Ann's Warehouse hopes to begin presenting in the Tobacco Warehouse in the fall of 2015.

Bang on a Can's radical marching band Asphalt Orchestrareturns to Lincoln Center Out of Doors to give the world premiere of Asphalt Orchestra Plays the Pixies: Surfer Rosa, commissioned by Lincoln Center and honoring the groundbreaking album's 25th anniversary, tonight, July 28, 2013 at 6:30pm at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park Bandshell. Parade sets by Asphalt Orchestra and Jacob Garchik's The Heavens start at 6 pm on Josie Robertson Plaza and Hearst Plaza. The program also includes performances by the Kronos Quartet with special guests Dan Deacon and Jherek Bischoff, as part of a weeklong celebration, KRONOS at 40, co-curated by Lincoln Center and Kronos Quartet.

Soho Rep has announced that the celebrated stage and screen actor Larry Pine will star in the world premiere production of Lucas Hnath's adrenaline-charged odyssey A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney. Directed by Soho Rep Artistic Director Sarah Benson, Pine will play the title character - the man who forever changed the American Dream. Hnath's fictional play centers around the reading of a screenplay Walt Disney has written about his last days on earth. The script is about a city he is going to build that is going to change the world; about his brother; about everyone who loves Disney and how sad they are going to be when he is gone.

The Puppet Lab, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, is St. Ann's Warehouse's experimental haven for artists developing interdisciplinary projects for puppet and object theater. Under the direction of Lab Directors Matthew Acheson and Krissy Smith, participating artists and their collaborators have met weekly over several months to develop projects, share puppetry elements and other design and technical ideas, discuss plot structure and character development, and work on narrative. They will present their works in the annual Labapalooza! festival, which will run May 23 - 26 at St. Ann's Warehouse.
