Classical Theatre of Harlem to Present THE TEMPEST, 7/3-26

The 15th anniversary season of The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director; David Roberts, Managing Director) continues with CTH's free, summer, uptown production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, presented in partnership with City Parks Foundation's SummerStage festival. The Carl Cofield-directed production, which stars New York theater and Broadway veteran Ron Cephas Jones, will transform the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park into an enchanted Caribbean island where the magic takes flight, with an elaborate aerial design elements planned. The third annual CTH Under the Stars presentation holds previews on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run from July 5 through 26.

Happy Birthday Leslie Uggams! Uggams starred in Hallelujah, Baby!, which premiered on Broadway in 1967, and won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical. She appeared on Broadway in the revue Blues in the Night in 1982 and in the musical revue of the works of Jerry Herman, Jerry's Girls in 1985. Later Broadway roles include Muzzy in Thoroughly Modern Millie (2003 - 2004) and Ethel Thayer in On Golden Pond at the Kennedy Center in 2004 and on Broadway at the Cort Theatre in 2005. In 2001 she appeared in the August Wilson play King Hedley II, receiving a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play.

The Dallas Theater Center Board of Trustees announced today the appointment of Jeffrey Woodward as managing director of the 56-year-old organization. Woodward's experience includes Syracuse Stage and 17 years at McCarter Theatre Center. The appointment follows the departure of Heather M. Kitchen, who announced her retirement in September 2014. Woodward will formally assume his post in mid-July.

Bridge Theater Series 2015-16 Announced

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is pleased to announce a new programming initiative, for children ages 7 and up, the Bridge Theater Series will feature professional productions staged by award-winning national and international companies known for their quality and imaginative work. The 2015-2016 inaugural season of the Bridge Theater Series will include a mix of productions based on popular books, current issues and topics, and historical events. The aesthetic will be young, contemporary, thought-provoking, technology-infused, imaginative and challenging. Performing arts companies from the United States and around the globe including India, Peru, the Netherlands, and Scotland will grace various stages in Pittsburgh's downtown Cultural District. Two of the productions in this new series, Titus by Macrobert Arts Centre (Scotland) and Short Stories by Teatro Hugo e Ines (Peru), will take place during the 2016 EQT Children's Theater Festival (May 12-15, 2016).
