Sarah Ruhl & Les Waters Join Forces for THREE SISTERS at Berkeley Rep

Audiences and critics on both coasts embraced Eurydice and In the Next Room (or the vibrator play), two shows steeped in longing from playwright Sarah Ruhl and director Les Waters. Now this talented team turns its attention to a fresh translation of a masterpiece: Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters. Ruhl enlivens this classic with the same elegant understanding of intimacy that infused those earlier collaborations, while Waters and a cast of 14 deliver another sumptuous production. This West Coast premiere begins previews on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage on April 8, opens April 13, and runs through May 22. Three Sisters is a co-production between Berkeley Rep, where Waters serves as associate artistic director, and Yale Repertory Theatre.

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for the U.S. premiere of Alan Ayckbourn's new comedy, Life of Riley. Directed by Richard Seer, Life of Riley will run in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of The Old Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, April 30 - June 5. Preview performances run April 30 - May 4. La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce the sixth production of National Theatre Live's second season - broadcast live from the National Theatre in London, Danny Boyle's acclaimed production of FRANKENSTEIN. FRANKENSTEIN will be broadcast with two different actors alternating the roles for two different experiences - the first, on SUNDAY, APRIL 3 at 2pm with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature & Jonny Lee Miller as Victor and on SUNDAY, APRIL 10 at 2pm with Benedict Cumberbatch as Victor and Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature - both performances can be seen at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd. in La Mirada.

Prolific playwright and Mexican Chicagoan Tanya Saracho brings US/Mexico border violence and class divide into sharp relief in El Nogalar, presented at Goodman Theatre, produced and commissioned by Teatro Vista, starting March 26, 2011. The Goodman's fourth collaboration with Teatro Vista over 16 years, El Nogalar marks the beginning of a new three-year producing partnership dedicated to new work by Latino writers. Cecilie D. Keenan directs this world premiere by Saracho-a Teatro Vista resident playwright and 'one of Chicago['s] most talented young writers' (Chicago Tribune)-developed in a staged reading during the Goodman's Latino Theatre Festival. El Nogalar (pecan orchard) is inspired by Anton Chekhov's classic The Cherry Orchard and charts a Mexican family's experience as their way of life is threatened by encroaching drug cartels, violence and economic upheaval. El Nogalar begins previews March 26 (Opening Night is April 4) and runs through April 24, 2011 in the Goodman's Owen Theatre; tickets are $10 - $42 (ticket prices are subject to change).
