Lyric Opera of Chicago presents the thrilling story of a deadly love triangle set to Georges Bizet's most vivid and exciting music. No wonder it's so popular! Carmen heats up this winter in a new Lyric coproduction with two smoking-hot casts.

Last year through Lyric Unlimited's groundbreaking Chicago Voicesinitiative, three incredibly unique groups were  selected for a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience to bring their community's stories to life through song. Now, Lyric is excited to announce the second round of Community Created Performances!

Through Lyric's groundbreaking Chicago Voices initiative, the music of Chicago past and present will be in the spotlight in a star-studded weekend of vocal artistry! During the weekend of February 2 - 4, Lyric will present a series of Expert Panels and Master Classes in conjunction with the Chicago Voices Concert, a one-night only, multi-genre concert celebrating Chicago's diverse vocal music heritage with performances by iconic Chicago singers.

Now, Lyric is excited to announce the second round of Community Created Performances! Groups of Chicagoans are invited to share their untold, compelling stories that may not typically appear in the paper or in mainstream media. Applications for Community Created Performances are now available at chicagovoices.org and will be accepted through Friday, January 27.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the World Premiere of HK Gruber's Piano Concerto - a Philharmonic co-commission with the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic orchestras - with pianist Emanuel Ax as soloist; Weill's Little Threepenny Music for Wind Orchestra; and Schubert's Symphony No. 2. The performances will take place Today, January 5, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 7 at 8:00 p.m.

The world premiere production of Bel Canto the Opera - recorded in Chicago last January - airs on Great Performances Friday, January 13 at 9 p.m. on PBS.

Internationally-renowned cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and pianist Shai Wosner release an all-Beethoven disc on the Onyx Classics label on December 9, 2016.  The duo's album, which was recorded live in London's Wigmore Hall, consists of the complete Beethoven cello sonatas and variations, to be released as a two-disc set.  Last season, Kirshbaum and Wosner performed Beethoven cycles extensively throughout the United States and Europe; the tour culminated with a performance of the complete cycle in London, recorded for Onyx Classics.  Mr. Kirshbaum and Mr. Wosner continue their performances of Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano in March, with a two-concert series at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, followed by a performance with Chamber Music Sedona in Arizona.

Beginning this Friday, San Francisco Opera Resident Conductor Jordi Bernacer will take the podium to lead four programs over a span of seven days. Bernacer, who made his Company conducting debut with a performance of Bizet's Carmen last summer, will conduct the final fall season performances of Puccini's Madama Butterfly (December 4) and Verdi's Aida (December 6) at the War Memorial Opera House, a concert of opera scenes and arias showcasing the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows at Herbst Theatre (December 2), and a concert featuring the string section of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra (December 8) in the intimate Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera.

Fresh off her debut at London's Royal Opera House and just before her Met debut, Daniela Mack joins Florida Grand Opera's (FGO) cast of George's Bizet's Carmen. Ms. Mack will perform the title role from December 1 through December 3, 2016 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
