In the spirit of their 40th season with its focus on Her Vision, Her Voice, Skylight Theatre Company is presenting the second of three new plays by female playwrights and directors, Elizabeth Dement's No Place Like Gandersheim, directed by Randee Trabitz. Opening on May 20, the play features an all-female creative and production team. I was curious to find out the inspiration for Dement's lead character Roz, the time-traveling aspect of the play, and what insights the playwright learned along the way about women in the entertainment industry.

Theatre Works will bring its signature style of radio-theater to 27 venues across the U.S. as part of the company's 16th annual national tour. Alexis Jacknow (LATW recordings of Tribes, Together Tonight and the Audie Award-winning Hound of the Baskervilles) directs Seven, a riveting documentary play by seven female writers, based on personal interviews with seven remarkable women who faced life-threatening obstacles before bringing heroic changes to their home countries of Pakistan, Nigeria, Ireland, Afghanistan, Guatemala, Russia and Cambodia.

Hedda Gabler - Henrik Ibsen created one of literature's most compelling characters in the beautiful and enigmatic Hedda, a woman who feels trapped and suffocated in her marriage. Hedda has just returned from her honeymoon with George, but finds herself ill-suited to the role of a housewife. Her desperate dissatisfaction leads to dangerous choices in this exhilarating contemporary adaptation by Doug Hughes.

The McCallum Theatre presents L.A. Theatre Works' production of Steel Magnolias on Monday, February 25, at 7:00pm. Strong as steel and delicate as magnolias. The six women of Chinquapin, Louisiana, face life's ups and downs together in this beloved comedy/drama. Truvy's home beauty parlor is their gathering place, where they gossip, needle, and jab each other through the best of times and comfort and repair one another through the worst. Based on the hit Off-Broadway show that became a star-studded motion picture in 1989, this is a funny, poignant tale of female friendship and the unbreakable mother-daughter bond.

Theatre Works will bring its signature radio-theater hybrid style to Morristown on Friday, March 8 as it presents Steel Magnolias.  The play is a funny, heartbreaking story of female empowerment and resilience by Robert Harling, is directed by Brian Kite and features a company of six diverse women including Shannon Holt, Elisa Bocanegra, Monica McSwain, Inger Tudor, Cerris Morgan-Moyer and Patti Yasutake.

Whether you are familiar with The Nutcracker ballet or not, you will definitely find huge laughs and great holiday mirth with Sandra Tsing Loh and her Sugar Plum Fairy, This, however, is definitely a show for adults or mature teens, preferably those into the performing arts.. Young teens in school  theatre understand aspirations, jealousy and failures, but it would not be easy for them to extrapolate the humor. Now onstage at the Skylight on Vermont in Hollywood, Sugar Plum Fairy is best described as 'the magic in putting on a show'.

Based on a true story, Steel Magnolias features six strong, resilient women who bond over love, laughter, and loss. The show was written as a tribute to playwright Robert Harling's sister who passed away due to diabetes complications. The actors respond to events featuring life challenges over three years. Steel Magnolias takes the stage during their 29th year of touring at Popejoy Hall on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 3 p.m. Directed by Brian Kite, the theatrical and film classic is set against the backdrop of the Louisiana Bayou in the 1980s. The performance begins when a group of women meets unexpectedly at Truvy's in-home beauty salon on the day of the Eatenton Wedding. Shelby, the bride, is in dire need of an up-do from Truvy. Although Shelby was cautioned against having children because she has Type 1 diabetes, she is determined to experience motherhood. Following Shelby's decision to have a child, her friends and family stand beside her to support her and her baby on the way. L.A. Theatre Works has announced its 2018-19 season of seven plays, each to be recorded in front of a live audience for future radio broadcast and online distribution. All performances take place at the James Bridges Theater, located on the campus of UCLA in West Los Angeles. In addition, the company will introduce audiences to its signature style of radio theater at venues across the country during its 15th national tour.
