Matt Crabtree BIO

Matt grew up a shy, quiet, stuttering kid in the small town of McLeansville, North Carolina, who unexpectedly and albeit reluctantly found an outlet in entertaining others.

After years of doing theatre at Campbell University (where he got his BS in Biology) and the surrounding local towns, he moved to Richmond to continue his studies at the Medical College of Virginia. A chance audition allowed him to leave school behind to perform in the National Tour of She Loves Me. Landing in New York he performed everywhere it seems – from Off-Broadway (45th Street Theatre, Promenade Theatre, and Carnegie Hall) to storefronts and Cabaret Clubs, Matt branched out to Regional Theatres and a European Tour of West Side Story as Chino. He then ended at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s School at Steppenwolf in Chicago.

Arriving in the City of Angels with a clean slate, a year of classes and networking led to his first job on the last episode of Diagnosis Murder with the legendary Dick van Dyke.

Most recently, TV appearances include, Dads, Monday Mornings, Recurring on Will and Grace, NCIS, Bones, Grey's Anatomy. And films, Jamesy Boy (with Mary-Louise Parker), The 41 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It., Eugene and Just Face It with Damon Wayans Jr.

BWW Reviews: DOCTOR ANONYMOUS Looks At The Masks We Wear While Hiding The Truth From Ourselves

Although a work of fiction, DOCTOR ANONYMOUS was inspired by a watershed moment in LGBT history when Dr. John E. Fryer, wearing a mask and using a voice-distorting microphone, declared himself a homosexual in front of the American Psychiatric Association's 1972 convention - leading to the decision to de-list homosexuality as a mental illness.
