The groundbreaking opera X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X will receive its West Coast premiere at Seattle Opera February 24–March 9.

Sunday, April 12, at 4:30 pm -- The Princeton Symphony Orchestra Chamber Series presents Soprello, a duo of soprano Allison Pohl and cellist Alistair MacRae at the Institute for Advanced Study. The concert features music written for or inventively repurposed for the soprano voice and the cello with original arrangements of songs by Henry Purcell, Robert Schumann, and Gilbert and Sullivan, plus new music by Steven Gerber, David Dzubay, and Rick Sowash. Composer John Tavener's complete Akhmatova Songs will also be performed.

I talk with Dena Scheh, well-respected Houston costume designer and frequent collaborator with Opera in the Heights, about her work on Opera in the Height's currently running production HANSEL UND GRETEL. Despite the German title, it is the story of Hansel and Gretel you know and love. There is a witch, and candy house, and a clever, resourceful brother and sister duo.

The Bronx Opera invites you to follow the famed mischievous brother and sister into Ilsenstein forest and meet the echoing trees, the little Sandman, the 14 angels of protection, the little Dew Fairy, and emerge in front of the enormous gingerbread house and meet the evil Rosine Leckermaul ('Rosina Tastymuzzle'), the evil witch that turns children into gingerbread in this classic Humperdinck opera based on the famed Brother Grimm story.
