Auditions Open for Vocal Arts Festival 2014

Opera Theatre of the Rockies announces the return of the renowned Vocal Arts Festival and Young Artists Intensive Training Program to the Colorado College campus this summer. This distinctive program will run from July 1-July 27.

Opera Theatre seeks singers who are interested in gaining personalized intensive training with expert internationally-known faculty from the worlds of opera and musical theater and a wonderful experience in stage performance. Participants will be featured in two concerts (July 8, Grand Opening Festival Concert and July 13, staged and costumed Scenes Performance) and a full production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical, The King and I.

Auditions will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 3 and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 4 in the Flex Room, Cornerstone Theater, Colorado College located on the main floor, west side of the building, at the southeast corner of Cascade Avenue and Cache La Poudre Street, Colorado Springs.

The participation fee for this year’s program is $550 for 4 weeks of intensive training in voice, acting, dance and other areas of professional performance. Room (private individual) and Board (2 meals daily) are available. Detailed information can be forwarded upon request.

Auditions are for all ages to include those entering Middle School in fall 2014 through high school, college, and post college with no upper age limit. All singers should prepare one song (music theater, popular, or classical) in English and for college/post college classical singers, an additional classical song or aria would be appreciated in any language of your choosing.

For The King and I – Participants in the full Vocal Arts Festival program will be given first consideration in casting The King and I. The role of the King is cast, but all other roles for The King and I are available. If you are auditioning for the role of Anna, Lady Thiang, Tuptim or Lun Tha, please have an appropriate selection from the show prepared. You may also be asked to do a cold reading from the King and I script. These auditions also include audition requests from any professional singers who are only auditioning for leading roles in The King and I as listed above. Opera Theatre’s Music Director will play for the auditions.
