The Angels: Heroines in Disguise are a comedic Renaissance variety group who sing, story-tell, and sword-fight their way to entertaining the masses! We are also a group with a particular vision and mission statement:
The Angels: Heroines in Disguise seek to diversify the pool of Renaissance Festival entertainment by being an all female group in male-dominated field; to support female performers and patrons and to provide positive role-models for women in our community and audience by presenting holistic visions of womanhood and embodying healthy, intersectional feminism/womanism; and to create and perform material that presents messages of empowerment (particularly targeting women and children) wrapped in comedic narrative, harmonious song, and sword-play.
We are seeking a new partner for our 2017 season and beyond! This person will travel with current Angels: Kate/Red - Megan Stegall and Libby/Green - Sarah Moreno to any festivals we are contracted for including the Carolina and Arizona Renaissance Festivals. Our 2016 season has also included the Colorado and Pittsburgh Renaissance festivals. We are hoping to contract a full 5 festivals for the 2017 season.
Audition video submissions will be accepted July 1 - 10th, with in-person auditions July 7th at the Colorado Renaissance Festival. Those interested in onsite auditions will be responsible for their own travel costs and should e-mail TheAngelsHID@gmail.com to schedule an audition time before July 6th, 10:00pm. Who We Are Looking For:
Applicant Requirements:
ABSOLUTELY willing and able to travel and/or already on or interested in joining the festival circuit in some capacity. Possible travel locations are within the continental U.S. Festival dates include 36-40 weekends a year, February-November.
Female (trans or cis) and/or genderfluid/non-binary person comfortable presenting as female: wearing traditional female garb and styling.
Any race or ethnicity.
Being interested in increasing the diversity of high profile Renaissance performers, we strongly encourage women of color to apply.
21 to 35 years of age (as of January 1st, 2016).
Singing ability of any voice part.
Strong speaking voice and projection abilities.
Strong memorization skills.
Comfortable with sexual/bawdy humor.
Comfortable with and dedicated to the vision and mission statement of the group.
Skills Preferred:
Stage combat experience (SAFD preferred).
Strong character performer, good comedic timing.
Improv skills and/or training.
Strong singing ability, pitch matching and harmonization skills.
Social media savvy
We are looking for someone who is comfortable with the style of performance and movement in our show as well as someone who is interested in being a collaborative and creative partner; she does not have to look like us in terms of shape, size, color, etc.
