Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center will be holding auditions for:
Neil Simon's The Gingerbread Lady directed by Joshua Schorejs next Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 6pm to 9pm.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
The Gingerbread Lady
is a dark drama with comic overtones centering on Evy Meara, a cabaret singer whose career, marriage, and health all have been destroyed by alcohol. We meet her at the end of a ten week drying out period at a sanitarium when her friend, her daughter, and an actor try to help her adjust to sobriety. The friend is so constantly vain that she loses her husband; the actor, a homosexual, is also doomed, and indeed loses his part three days before opening; and the daughter needs more affection than she can spare her mother. Evy's effort at hosting a party crumble when she falls off the wagon and careens toward a tragic end.

Evy Meara -
Mid 40s/F- A charming and vulnerable cabaret singer who is struggling with alcoholism.
Polly Meara -
17/F - Evy's daughter and redemption.
Toby Landu -
Early 40s/F - Evy's best friend.
Jimmy Perry -
Early 40s/M - Evy's gay actor friend. Always right on the cusp of being successful. Blames others for his failures.
Lou Tanner -
Early 30s/M - Evy's ex-boyfriend. A total scumbag who pushed Evy toward her downward spiral.
Manuel -
20/M - A delivery boy.
The Gingerbread Lady will have performances June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
