Venue: Center Stage Performing Arts is a new studio based in the heart of Boca Raton Florida. A venue that holds musical theater productions and classes for children - adults. This venue is a non-equity theater and non-paying. To be part of our amazing productions once offered a role you will have the opportunity to accept. For students, once the role is accepted the student has to pay to be part of the production. For professional performers and adults, once role is accepted you will have the opportunity to discuss your involvement with the Studio Director. Center Stage offers actors the opportunity to be part of relevant musical productions that are great resume builders.

Synopsis

TITLE: SPRING AWAKENING: THE MUSICAL
AUTHOR: Book and Lyrics by Steven Sater, Music by Duncan Sheik, Based on the play by Frank Weekend

AUDITION DATES: January 21, 2015 ( 4:00 - 7:00 pm)

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
This is an Non-Equity production. There is no pay. Bring headshot and resume. Prepare 16 – 32 bars of a song in the style of the show or from the show. An accompanist will be provided. Also be prepared to move as a dance combo will be taught. Please be very familiar with the script. Audition sides from the script will be provided.

SYNOPSIS:It’s Germany, 1891. The beautiful young Wendla explores her body and asks her mother where babies come from. Elsewhere, the brilliant and fearless young Melchior defends his buddy Moritz — a boy so traumatized by puberty he can’t concentrate on anything. One afternoon in the woods, Wendla and Melchior discover a desire unlike anything they’ve ever felt. SPRING AWAKENING explores the confusion and desperation that ensue when the onrushing tide of hormones meets the ignorance of children. Celebrating the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, poignancy, and passion that you will never forget.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
There will be color-blind casting in this show. Everyone in the age-range should audition.

WENDLA (female, 18-20s): Innocent, but bored with the restraints of her life. With every passing day, she grows more curious about the world around her. She is both vulnerable and a willing participant in her evolution. Strong acting abilities a must.

ILSE (female, 18-20s): ILSE (female, 18-20s): A girl who shares Martha’s dark secret; she ran away from home to live in an artists’ colony. She’s a free-spirit and Moritz’s last hope. Strong acting abilities a must. Will also play FRAULEIN GROSSEBUSTENHALTER (Georg’s Piano teacher).

MARTHA (female, 18-20s): A schoolgirl with a dark secret; terrified of disobeying her father.

ANNA (female, 18-20s): Schoolgirl and Martha’s best friend; has a difficult time understanding Martha’s trials.

THEA (female, 18-20s): Wendla’s best friend; a schoolgirl with an intense crush on Melchior.

MELCHIOR (male, 18-20s): Smart, headstrong boy who refuses to bow down to society’s rules; an atheist; struggles with his intense feelings for Wendla; Moritz’s best friend and confidant. Strong acting abilities a must. Tenor.

MORITZ (male, 18-20s): Troubled student who desperately tries to please his father, but always seems to disappoint him; has haunting dreams; curious about sex; Melchior’s best friend. Strong acting abilities a must. Tenor.

HANSCHEN (male, 18-20s): Schoolmate of Melchior’s who is comfortable with his own sexuality and uses his looks and intelligence to seduce Ernst. Must be comfortable with same-sex intimacy. Strong acting abilities a must. Baritenor.

ERNST (male, 18-20s): Schoolmate of Melchior’s; naïve, timid, and unsure. Must be comfortable with same-sex intimacy. Strong acting abilities a must. Baritenor.

OTTO (male, 18-20s): Classmate of Melchior’s who struggles with feelings he considers inappropriate. Baritenor.

GEORG (male, 18-20s): Schoolmate of Melchior’s who is overcome with his feelings for his piano teacher. Tenor and needs to be able to sing up to a D5 in falsetto.

ADULT MAN (Male, 35+): Needs to be able to play multiple characters with distinction; strong acting abilities a must. Ensemble singing only. Plays all adult male roles: HERR STIEFL (Mortiz’s father), HERR GABOR (Melchior’s Father), HERR SONNENSTICH (boys teacher), HERR KNOCHENBRUCH (boys headmaster), HERR RILOW (Hanschen’s father), HERR NEUMANN (Ilse’s Father), FATHER KAULBACH (Priest), DOCTOR VON BRAUSEPULVER (Doctor) and SCHMIDT (matron)

ADULT WOMAN (female, 35+): Needs to be able to play multiple characters with distinction; strong acting abilities a must. Ensemble singing only. Plays all adult female roles: FRAU GABOR (Melchior’s mother), FRAU BERGMAN (Wendla’s mother), FRAULEIN KNUPPELDICK (associate to headmaster Herr Knochenbruch), and FRAU BESSELL (Martha’s Mother) Looking for a very strong character actress for this role.
