Revolving around Truvy's Beauty Parlor in modern-day Louisiana,Steel Magnolias is the story of a close-knit circle of friends who gather there. Filled with humor and heartbreak, these "steel magnolias" make us laugh cry as the realities of their lives in tiny Chiquapin Parish unfolds.

Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue.

Sides will be read from the script.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

Truvy Jones (35 to 45)
Owner of the beauty shop. Vivacious.
Dispenses advice with lots of hairspray.

Annelle (18 to 24)
Newly hired beauty shop assistant.
Moves from unsure to wild to religious.

Clairee Belcher (55 to late 60s)
Widow of former Mayor. Granddame.
Elegant, sophisticated, a true beauty.

Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie (mid to late 20s)
Prettiest girl in town. Loves pink.
Strong willed, passionate.

M'Lynn Eatenton (40s to 50s)
Shelby's mother. Always knows what's best,
Strong, stubborn, the heart of the piece.

Ouiser Boudreaux (in her 60s)
Wealthy curmudgeon.
Tough, eccentric,
acerbic but loveable.

"The women in this play are witty, intelligent,
and above all, real characters. They in no way,
shape or form are meant to be portrayed as

cartoons or caricatures."
