Show Description:
Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein walk into a bar.... No, it is not a joke, it's a play that could only spring from the mind of comedian Steve Martin. Set in a Paris cafe in 1904, just before each man introduced the work that would make him famous, Martin places the two geniuses center stage for a merry romp and sometimes ridiculous look at the artistic, the scientific and the romantic. "Martin sends ideas onstage in baggy pants, with a cigar ... Very good fun." - N.Y. Times

Character Descriptions:
Freddy : Male (25-35). The owner and bartender of the Lapin Agile. He is the boyfriend of Germaine and the simple minded one in the play. However sometimes he says something truly stunning. Support arts and loves a good debate!.

Gaston: Male (50 up). An abrupt and straight to the point old French, very French man!. He talks plainly and really only seems to care about sex and drinking. He has prostate problems (“I have to pee!”). French accent would be a plus.

Germaine: Female (20-35). The waitress at the Lapin Agile. She is Freddy's girlfriend and a very thoughtful and beautiful woman.. She has many ideas of what the 20th century will be like and has slept with Picasso.

Albert Einstein : Male (25- age open to older).A twenty-five year old (but looks older, wears mustache too) scientist with big aspirations. He is a genius, with a book on the way called "The Special Theory of Relativity". He often finds himself having to explain his theories and thoughts in a simpler fashion to the rest of the group, as he is wise beyond his years. He is passionate and enthusiastic but not arrogant.

Suzanne : Female (18-25). A beautiful and somewhat naïve nineteen year old girl who is head over heels for Picasso. Suzanne and Picasso have already slept together, and she is left hurt and angry when he doesn't remember her. Should be physically attractive and command the room with her presence.

Sagot : Male (age open, over 30). Picasso's art dealer, who is obsessed with finding and selling great pieces of art for profit. Energetic, eccentric and confident.

Pablo Picasso : Male (25). A charismatic and arrogant twenty-three year old painter with tons of talent. He is extremely egotistical and confident in himself. He is a womanizer who sleeps with one woman to the next with his manipulating moves. A suave Spanish or Latin accent welcome, picture Antonio Banderas or Javier Bardem.

Charles Dabernow Schmendiman: Male (25-30). A young inventor with huge dreams and little knowledge. Although he is hardworking he is nowhere near the genius or talent of Einstein or Picasso. Must have excellent comedic timing and be able to play over the top. He is a “tornado” on the stage!.

The Countess: Female (25-45). An intelligent, attractive and rich woman to whom Einstein is infatuated with. She can be older than him. She thinks like he does, being the one person to really understand him in the play. Role can be combined with ‘Female Admirer”.

A Female Admirer: Female (25-30). The ultimate fan girl. A young admirer Picasso assumes is a fan of his, but turns out to be an admirer of Schmendiman. Role can be combined with ‘The Countess”.

The Visitor : Male (25-35). Elvis Presley in the fifties! ..polite and talented country boy time-traveler, who adds a third dimension and point of view to Einstein and Picasso's debate. He is blue-suede-shoed musician. Must be able to impersonate Elvis physically (hip moves). No singing role.
