Celebrating its 75th anniversary year, Our Town, an American classic with universal appeal, was the winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The widely acclaimed work explores the relationship between two young neighbors, George Gibbs and Emily Webb, whose childhood friendship blossoms into romance, and then culminates in marriage. Recently deceased, Emily is granted the opportunity to revisit one day in her life, only to discover that she never fully appreciated all she possessed until she lost it. Oh, earth, you're too wonderful for anybody to realize you, she proclaims. The circle of life portrayed in each of the three acts in this timeless drama in the mythical village of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire.
Revered peer playwright Edward Albee shares While all of Wilder's work is intelligent, non-synthetic and often moving, as well as funny, it is Our Town that makes the difference. It is probably the finest play ever written by an American.
