**NEW LOCATION INFORMATION FOR SATURDAY 4/4/19**

Casting for a production of the award-winning musical, Dreamgirls. Synopsis: A musical following the success of the 1960s/1970s singing trio The Dreams. Based on famous R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, and James Brown.

Rehearsal and Production Dates and Location

  • Rehearsals will be staggered, so not everyone will be needed at every rehearsal. They will begin 5/28/19 and be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the evening. Saturdays will likely be in the afternoons. Showdates are July 11, 12, 13, 14 and then July 18, 19, 20, 21. Rehearsals and show will take place in Norwalk, CT.


Compensation Details

  • Principles will be paid $125/week for rehearsals and $250/week for show weeks; ensemble will be paid $75/week for rehearsals and $150/week for show weeks.


Audition Information
First round of auditions will be held Saturday, May 4th at Wall Street Theater, 71 Wall Street, in Norwalk, CT in Norwalk, CT.


We will be holding auditions for principle roles on this date (May 4th) from 10:00AM- 11:15AM, then we will break for lunch and come back to finish auditioning principle roles from 12:30PM- 2:00PM.



Auditions for ensemble and featured roles will be also be held on Saturday, May 4th from 3:00PM-6:00PM.



Make sure to bring 16 bars of sheet music in both a ballad and an uptempo. Please make sure the pieces are fitting to the show. Also be sure to bring a picture, resume, and dance attire.

Callbacks will be held on Sunday, May 5th at Wall Street Theater.

Roles

  • Effie White(Lead):(Female, 18-40) Full figured, tenacious, tough and temperamental. Lead singer of the Dreamettes with powerful belt. Journeys from snappy confidence to depths of betrayal, but triumphs in the end. Seeking actor with willingness to dig deep emotionally as well as belt. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent



  • Deena Jones (Lead): (Female, 18-40) Mezzo-soprano; the initially modest backup singer for Dreamettes. Replaces Effie, under pressure. And falls for Curtis, knowing Effie had him. The Diana Ross-esque character, so must move from innocent to “star.”



    Ethnicity: Black / African Descent


Lorrell Robinson (Lead): (Female, 18-30) Soprano, the youngest backup singer. Speaks her mind. Eager for success, swept off her feet by married James Thunder Early. High energy and attitude encouraged for this role, with a touch of the romantic.

  • Michelle Morris: (Female, 18-40) Soprano, replacement backup for Effie. Wants to stay out of in-fighting. Falls in love with C.C., and helps bring brother and sister together in the end. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

  • Curtis Taylor: (Male 25-45) Tenor/high baritone, a Cadillac dealer turned the Dreams’ brilliant manager, then music mogul. Charming, smooth, and funny, he’s ruthless in the pursuit of his dreams. Dumps Effie and James in pursuit of glory.



    Ethnicity: Black / African Descent


  • C.C. White: (Male, 20-30) Tenor; talented song writer for the Dreamettes/Dreams and Effie’s brother. Initially enthralled by Curtis’ business smarts.



    Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

  • James Thunder Early: (Male, 30-50) Tenor/strong falsetto, a James Brown-like flashy star of early R&B who Curtis steals from Marty. A trendsetter, but trends pass him by. Be ready to be a showman, and let loose.



    Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

  • Mart Madison: (Male, 40-60) Baritone; early manager of James Early, cleans up after many of James’ messes, old-school, honest and loyal.
