Brief Synopsis:
Julian, a philandering dentist, keeps his many affairs at bay by claiming to be married with children. When he falls for his girlfriend Toni and proposes, she wants to make sure his marriage is really over and Julian must produce a “wife.” He recruits his prickly nurse Stephanie to pose as his wife, with hilarious results. This Broadway hit later became a successful film starring Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman, and Goldie Hawn, winning her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

Roles: 5 men, 4 women

Toni Simmons, female, 21. She is free spirited young woman. Almost always perpetually optimistic, with a strong zest for fun and a sexy edge.

Igor Sullivan, male, early 20s. He’s a wannabe playwright with looks and a beatnik vibe who is attractive, a free spirit, and likes to run around just in a towel.

Dr. Julian Winston, male. A middle-aged bachelor and dentist. He’s handsome, a player, and thinks he has his life in control, only to discover that he doesn’t.

Harvey Greenfield, male. A middle aged bachelor. He is a moocher, a hanger-on, and thinks of himself as a catch, though he really isn’t.

Señor Arturo Sanchez, male. A middle aged wealthy Latin man. He lacks all kinds of morals, but he is wealthy enough that no one questions his motives. He acts as if he is a Don Juan, though he clearly isn’t. Though he acts confident, he is terrified of one thing: dental work.

Boticelli’s Springtime, female. 20s. She is a sex goddess who isn’t particularly bright.

Mrs. Dixon Durant, female, 50s to 60s. A wealthy socialite who loves to flirt with Dr. Winston and loves to sit in his dental chair. It’s questionable how much dental work she really needs.

Customer, Waiter, and Music Lover, male, 20s to 30s. The role needs to be played by an actor that can morph from being a bumbling customer, to a surly waiter, to a beatnik.

Stephanie Dickinson, female. (Role is not available.) A middle aged woman who may come across as very plain but then blossoms into a very attractive woman. She’s very devoted to her boss, fussy, and methodical. She learns to loosen up and develops a zest for life.

PLEASE NOTE: The role of Stephanie Dickinson has been pre-cast. All other roles are available.
